Relinquishing Love & Trust
I.
Mark 10:23-24-This guy
won’t let go of his stuff because he loves it and trusts it
A. The 1 he lacked was this
commandment of love; He loved his money & possessions
1. Through his love for
money he put a law into motion that’s working to keep him from being rich
B. It’s hard to enter into
God’s way of doing things when your trust is in your riches and not in Him
1. 23-It’s hard for those
who hold and cling to riches to enter the KOG
2. 24-It’s hard for those
who have confidence in riches to enter the KOG
C. Money wasn’t his problem,
it was the wrong relationship with money that was his problem
1. A major part of not
loving and trusting in your stuff is being willing to let go of it
2. 28-We have left all-we let go of it no longer
looking to it to do for us what only you can do
D. I can let you go because:
1. I love God and not you
2. I don’t trust in you or
rely on you
3. I don’t get my security
from you
4. I don’t get my
fulfillment from you
5. I know I’ll see you
again, but you’ll be a 100x greater
E. The eye of a needle
1. You had to unload your
camel that was packed with all your stuff and let go of it and put it in someone else’s hands and then take the
camel through and trust that they’d
give you your stuff back
2. When you come into God’s
way of doing things you got to put all that you have in the hands of God (that
doesn’t mean that you have to get rid of it, it just means you have to make it
available to him by offering it to him) and trust that when you enter into His
way of doing things whatever He requires of you He’ll load you back up again
hundredfold
F. There’s a principle here:
People who love and trust in money are not qualified for more of it because of
their unwillingness to let go
1. This rich young ruler was
on the verge of being richer than he ever had before and if he would have just
relinquished his love and trust in money and put it in Jesus he would have saw
much more of it
2. The hundredfold is only
for those who God has 100% of
G. To prosper at the level
God has for you, you got to be willing to let go & sow
1. There’s only two reasons
you can’t let go: (1) You love it (2) You trust it
II.
Luke 12:15-Beware of
covetousness
A. If Jesus is saying “pay
attention” and “beware” and we’re not doing that with covetousness and we think
we’re clean from it we’re not
1. Everything Jesus ever
said was for your good and prosperity
2. He’s telling you to be
ware of covetousness because he knows it will keep you from the level of
prosperity that God wants for you
B. Covetousness-It’s the I
have to have it mentality or a can’t be fulfilled because my life consist of
having it
1. Covetousness is not just
wanting something you don’t have, but it’s also and unwillingness to let go of
what you do have
C. 17-What shall I do?-Wrong question-God want do you want me to do?
D. 18-This WILL I do-I’ll do
what I want
E. 19-Selfishness-He only
had himself on his mind
F. 20-He wasn’t rich towards
God
G. 21-34-This is what he
should have done
H. Everything that that you
let go of was just deposited in Heaven
1. 33-A treasure in the
Heaven that fails not
2. Matthew 6:19-20-Treasures
in heaven, not treasures when you get to Heaven
a. Nothing wrong with a
savings account, but don’t trust it
b. Don’t save for a rainy
day; #1 Don’t expect a rainy day #2 God will be your umbrella when it rains
1)
1
Chronicles 29:3-He set his affection on God’s house and saved to sow
3. 1 Timothy 6:19-Laying up
in store for themselves that the might lay hold unto the fullness of life the
way God has it
4. Mark 10:21-Jesus is
trying to get this guy to get involved in God’s system of finance so he can
walk in this zoe life that he’s wanting so bad, but he want do it
