You Don't Have To Be Afraid

I.      You are not inferior

A.    Fear will operate as a result of and through a belief that you are inferior

1.      What you believe you are inferior to you will be afraid of  

2.      Fear-A strong dose of respect for something that is dangerous; You respect the power of a thing, more than you respect the power of God

a.    Fear is the belief that something unfavorable is going to happen that you don’t have the power to stop from happening

3.      The breaking point of fear is the moment u begin to believe u are inferior

B.     Numbers 13-They’re afraid because they believe they are inferior to the problem

1.      31-33-The belief that they are inferior gives place to fear

2.      9- Josh/Caleb are trying to get the them to believe they’re not inferior

C.    A major key to walking free from fear is to understand the authority & power that you have as a believer; b/c that which u believe u are superior to you will not fear

1.      Mark 4:35-The disciples were afraid and Jesus wasn’t

a.    Jesus believed what was in him was greater than the storm

1)       The storm arose and he arose and stood up to it

2)       He’s commanding the wind b/c he believes he is superior to it

3)       Psalm 89:9-He didn’t ask God to do something, he did what God did

b.    They were afraid of the storm b/c they believed they were inferior

1)       Rom 1:16-Why are u afraid of that which I’ve given u authority over?

c.     They believed he had authority over the storm, but they didn’t believe they had authority over it; That’s the problem with many believers today

2.      Matthew 14:24-Peter was afraid and Jesus wasn’t

3.      1 Samuel 17:36,45-47-David wasn’t afraid, the men of Israel were

D.    2 Kings 6:16, 1 John 4:4-You don’t have to be afraid b/c you’re not inferior

1.      With a heart full of fully persuaded faith and the Word of God coming out your mouth there’s no situation you’ll ever been inferior to (Mark 11:23)

II.     You can be certain about God’s Word

A.    Fear comes in through uncertainty; If you are uncertain about what’s going to happen, fear will be the result

1.      Deuteronomy 28:66-BBE-Your life will be hanging in doubt before you, & day and night will be dark with fears, and nothing in life will be certain: NIV-You will live in constant suspense, filled with dread both night and day, never sure of your life. NLT-Your life will constantly hang in the balance. You will live night and day in fear, unsure if you will survive. NCV-You will live with danger and be afraid night and day. You will not be sure that you will live. NIRV-Your lives will always be in danger. You will be filled with fear night and day. You will never be sure you are safe.

a.    You’ll fear day and night b/c you have not assurance if you’ll live or die 

b.    If you’re certain you’re going to live, prosper, be in health, and come out victorious in every situation then there’s no reason to fear

2.      If you’re uncertain about the Word of God, you’ll be afraid; fear & uncertainty go together (Job 3, 1 Sam 17)

a.    Daniel 3:16-18-They were certain and consequently fearless

b.    Mark 4:35-There were uncertain about what Jesus said

B.     God answers fear with certainty

1.      Joshua 1:5, 3:10-Joshua is probably having to deal with feelings and thoughts of fear and God gives Him surety and he gets sure

2.      1 Chronicles 28:20-And David said to Solomon his son, Be strong and of good courage, and do it: fear not, nor be dismayed: for the LORD God, even my God, will be with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work for the service of the house of the LORD.

3.      Judges 6:16-And the LORD said unto him, Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man.

4.      2 Samuel 9:7-And David said unto him, Fear not: for I will surely shew thee kindness for Jonathan thy father’s sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually.

C.    Our certainty is a result of God backing His word with a blood covenant

1.      A covenant is like a contract in that binds a person to do what he said

a.    He said w/ his mouth he would do it; a contract binds him to what he said

2.      Genesis 15-Through certainty from God Abraham came out of fear 

a.    8-He’s battling fear because he’s uncertain

b.    God gave Abraham His Word, but now He’s going to back His Word with a blood sworn oath/contract so Abraham can be certain

c.     13-God told him to know certainly or of a surety

3.      Hebrews 6:13

a.    Heb 6:13-If He’s lying He’s dying; He can’t die, he can’t lie

b.    16-Men swear by the greater & it’s certain, they’ll do what they swore to

c.     17-God has an abundant desire to show us the unchangeableness of His Word so He guaranteed it with a blood covenant so that we could be certain and sure about what He promises and in turn be free from fear

d.    18-God’s word and His Covenant make it impossible for him to lie because it’s impossible for Him to die and He swore by Himself

e.    18-His word and His covenant give us strong encouragement to take hold up an white-hot expectation that His word is coming to pass

f.      19-That hope anchors my soul (where fear tries to work)

1)       I’m not fearful or worrisome about what God promised because I’m certain that it will come to pass just the way He said it and I’m certain because he secured it with a blood covenant

III.   God loves you

A.    Mark 4:35-Their fear was rooted in belief that Jesus didn’t care about/love them

1.      They were uncertain about his love and that’s why they were afraid

2.      Care-Forethought & interest not anxiety; value, esteem, heed one’s prosperity

a.    They are saying you’re not interested in us, you don’t value & esteem us, you’re not interested in our safety & prosperity, you don’t care about us, u don’t love us

B.     When somebody loves you: 1) They’re totally for ur good & prosperity 2) They want the best for u & don’t want anything good to be withheld from u 3) They do everything in their power to see to it that u have safety & prosperity 4) They care for u (heed ur safety & prosperity)

1.      Deut 1:21-32-They don’t believe God loves them & that’s why they’re afraid

C.    Romans 8:14-15-He adopted me and loves me and I don’t have to be afraid

D.    1 Peter 5:7-When you believe God loves you/cares for you’ll cast all your care on him and be fearless
