In Your Place, In Your Grace
I. God is longing to be
gracious to you-Isaiah 30:18
A.
This paints a picture of a God who wants to
be gracious to a people but can’t
1. THEREFORE-Something caused him 2 wait-AND-Something
connected 2 him waiting
B.
God’s will is to be gracious to you
1. Exodus 22:7, 34:6-Grace is at the core of God’s being; He is grace
a.
The God of all grace, The spirit of Grace, The
Word of Grace, & Jesus came to the Earth full of grace (1 Peter 5:10, Hebrews
10:29, Acts 20:32, John 1:14)
2. Psalm 84:11-God’s not a grace withholding God, He’s a grace giving God
3. Isaiah 30:19-God wants to be very
gracious to you
4. 2 Corinthians 9:8-God’s able to make all grace come to you
C.
If God wants to be gracious to them why
doesn’t he just do it?
1. There are things we can do that limit or enhance his ability to give
grace (Ps 78:41)
2. God is able to make all grace abound towards them, but His ability is
being limited by stuff that they are doing
II. One of the major problems
they have is that they are not in their place-Isaiah 30:1-12
A.
A major key to walking in grace is to be in
your place
1. Rebellious people who are outside of the place given by the authority
over them
2. The authority has told them to be somewhere & they are somewhere
else
B.
Your grace is always in the place your
supposed to be
1. 2 Timothy 1:9-Your place and your grace go together
2. 1 Corinthians 12:18-God is the one gives the place
3. Romans 12:4-6-We don’t all have the same place, the same grace, the same
gifts
C.
There are specific graces and places and
general graces and places
1. You have a specific place and grace on your life (Doctor, secretary,
your church)
2. As believers we have general places that we should be (Faith, Love,
Obedience)
D.
As believers when you leave your place, you
miss your grace
1. When you are outside of your place, God cannot be gracious to you
a.
1 of strongest ways 2 sure up God’s grace in ur life is to “Always be in ur place.”
2. You’re not going to get grace from
God when you’re not in the place of
God
a.
Ecclesiastes 10:4-Whatever you do, do not
leave your place
b.
Genesis 12:1-Abraham is given a new place and
that’s where his grace is
III. In a life of doing the word,
you’ll find grace because the Word is your place-Isaiah 30:9-12
A.
As a believer, your God-given place is the
Word of God
1. John 15:4,7, 1 John 2:5-We are to abide in him and we do that by keeping
his word
2. One of the main ways you can see more of God’s grace in your life is by
simply being a doer of the Word (Acts 14:3-The Word of Grace)
3. You’re deceived if you think you can live a life full of God’s grace and
give little to no time to the Word of God
B.
This Word assigns you place for every
situation you encounter
1. The only way to know where you’re place is, is to find it in the Word of
God
a.
2 Peter 1:2-Knowledge about your place will
lead to multiplied grace
2. When God gives you His word, He gives you a place to be and when you
reject His Word, you reject that place, and in doing so you reject grace
C.
1 Peter 2:3-When you’ve partaken of this Word
& increased & grown b/c of it you have tasted that the Lord is gracious
1. The beginning of seeing God’s grace in your life is a desire for the
Word
a.
Believers see no grace b/c they have no
desire 4 the Word
2. As we grow and increase through the word we are tasting of God’s grace
D.
They are despising and rejecting his Word;
not in their place
1. When God tells you to do something that immediately becomes your “place”
2. 9-They will not hear, listen, & obey the Word of God & it kept
them out of grace
a.
This is what keeps most believers out of
grace today
E.
Don’t go down to Egypt; there’s no grace down
there
1. They went down to Egypt, but that’s not the PLACE they were supposed to
be
a.
They didn’t profit or get help down there b/c
there was no grace in that place
2. Egypt is like the flesh; it profits you nothing (John 6:63)
a.
When you are walking in the flesh you are
walking in opposition to the word of God and there is no grace there; Grace &
profit is found in walking in the spirit
b.
They way they went down to Egypt in a time of
need is the way we’ve been going to the flesh in the time of need
1) You’ve been in need for a while so you get frustrated, discouraged;
you’re going down to Egypt and there’s no grace down there
IV. They missed out on their
grace b/c they were not in faith
A.
2-They are in need of grace, but aren’t
looking to the source of grace
1. They’re going to Egypt to find something that only God can give
2. The reason they are doing this is b/c they trust Egypt more than God
a.
Who you look to that’s who you trust
B.
The main problems believers are having in
receiving this grace from God is they aren’t looking to him b/c they don’t
trust Him & they don’t trust him b/c they have no foundation of the word
1. You can try to plug your toaster into your toilet, but you won’t find
electricity there
a.
EX: They look to medicine, the economy, to
their ability to save money
2. Matthew 7:7-People aren’t seeking grace and that’s why they’re not
finding it
a.
Where this is no demand for grace there will
be do supply of grace (James 4:4)
b.
Is 30:19, Heb 4:16-What you are not in faith
for, I cannot give to you by grace
1) They gave God no faith & he had avenue in which 2 flow grace 2 them
3. Practice looking to His grace for everything
a.
Develop a life that runs on the grace of God
C.
The thing you look to rather than looking to
God will end up being your disgrace
1. When u look to things for
grace rather than God you’ll be separated from grace
a.
“Dis” is a prefix that means separation
has taken place
2. 5-Egypt can’t profit b/c it can’t supply them w/ the grace they need (Heb
4:16)
a.
In a time of need you need grace to help, not
Egypt to help
b.
Grace is what will profit them and it’s down
in Egypt it’s with God
c.
Egypt was a disgrace to them – It
separated them from grace
3. They are not trusting him; no faith (Romans 5:2)
a.
Faith has always been the way to access God’s
grace
V. Grace is available for them
if they’ll get back in their place (Isaiah 30:15-16)
A.
You’re saved by grace and grace is in your
place-Return
1. Your grace is in doing what God said
2. Whatever situation you’re facing today you need to find out what God
said about that situation and then get in your place by doing what he said
& you’ll find grace
B.
They said no to grace, by saying no to their
place
1. When you say no to being in your place (the Word of God), you say no to
grace
2. They chose their own place; How many times have you chose to do what the
Word said don’t-EX: I’m going to get frustrated, discouraged, be mad, worry
C.
The
people who look (wait) to God and who are doing things the Kingdom way, being a
doer of the Word will get the grace-Isaiah 30:19
