Seeking

I.      Proverbs 8:17-The people who get direction or going to be those who seek the Holy Spirit for it; and those who don’t seek Him for it will not acquire it

A.    You’re not going to get water from a faucet you never turn on/go to/seek after; you’re not going to get direction from a GPS you don’t look to

B.     You have to seek Him for direction diligently-steadily, constant effort

1.      You don’t stop seeking direction just b/c you asked for some and thought you didn’t get it; you continue to be steady and constant in your effort to get direction and that begins with you seeking after it

2.      Stay in His face, go to him for everything, don’t be moved by what you didn’t hear; if you’re not going to get direction from him don’t let it be b/c you didn’t seek him

a.    You’re job is to seek, His job is to direct: DO YOUR JOB

b.    1Chronicles 16:11-Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually

c.     Psalm 27:8 When thou said, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek.

C.    THE WORD-If you are constant in your effort in seeking direction you will acquire it

II.     The level at which you seek the Holy Spirit for direction will be the level at which you are led by Him-Matthew 7:7

A.    Many people are not getting direction from the HS simply b/c they do not seek it

1.      If you’ll seek direction more you’ll find it more

2.      So many times what Heaven administers is determined by the faith of the believer

B.     Proverbs 28:5-The man who seeks God will access the anointing to know all things

1.      The man who seeks the Lord will know what’s right, how to decide, he’ll know what to do, when to do it, he’ll know what’s fitting and proper

III.   What it means to seek-Value births desire, desire births action, action births the demand met

A.    Require-You won’t seek after something you don’t value-you have to value direction in the sense that, “It’s a requirement for my life. I can’t live without it.”

1.      If you don’t think direction from the HS is vital you won’t seek Him for it

a.    Psalm 22:26-They shall praise the Lord--they who [diligently] seek for, inquire of and for Him, and require Him [as their greatest need]

b.    Psalm 27:8-You have said, Seek My face [inquire for and require My presence as your vital need]. My heart says to You, Your face (Your presence), Lord, will I seek, inquire for, and require [of necessity and on the authority of Your Word].

c.     Psalm 105:3-Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek and require the Lord [as their indispensable necessity]

2.      A big part of the problem is people being wise in their own eyes, thinking that they know how to think, what to say, and what to do a part from him-Is 5:20

a.    Build I life that’s dependent on His direction and wisdom and not your own-Pr 3:5

b.    If you didn’t need the HS you wouldn’t have him and if you only need to be taught some things and led in some areas Jesus would have said he’ll teach some things and lead you into some truth, but you’ll figure the rest out

B.     Crave-You don’t seek for something you don’t desire; you have to desire direction from the HS

1.      Isaiah 55:1-3-If you get hungry for direction and come to God you’ll get it

a.    Matthew 5:6-Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled

2.      Proverbs 16:26-Hunger for a thing urges you to do what ever is necessary to obtain it

a.    Your appetite is supposed to be driving you towards good things, the way for so long your appetite for bad things drove towards them  

C.    Strive after-As you seek something you’re doing everything necessary to find it

1.      Engage the keys to being led (I’m looking to Him, making time for Him)

2.      Part of seeking is a persistent, continuing pursuit until you obtain what you desire

D.    Demand-As you seek something with all your heart you’re demanding that you find it

1.      A person that eats right and exercise diligently is demanding they lose weight

2.      When you are engaging what God has told you to do your actions are demanding that the Holy Spirit to do His part; you’re placing a demand on his ministry

IV.   Principles of seeking

A.    If you assume that you know what to do and just start doing something you’ll miss direction from the Holy Spirit; As you stop and look to him and seek him you give Him place in your life to give you direction

1.      Certainly Jesus could’ve been tempted to think, I know how to handle this-Jn 8:26-29

a.    He didn’t assume that what he thought he should say was right

b.    The Father told him what to say, taught him what to say that’s b/c Jesus sought him for direction about what to say f

2.      You train yourself to immediately look to the one on the inside of you to the spirit’s leading rather than to your own understanding

a.    You have to inquire of the HS in each and every situation that involves your life

B.     If you’re going to seek him you’re going to have slow down-James 1:19

1.      Be quick to hear, to seek be slow to speak; I got to get it from the Holy Spirit first

2.      If you move to quickly you’re going to miss the direction and miss it-Proverbs 19:2

C.    John 8:1-Rather than yielding to bad emotions Jesus sought the Holy Spirit for direction

1.      When you’re yielding to feelings and thoughts of frustration, worry, discouragement, fear, etc you’re not seeking Him and if you would seek Him rather than being mad and miffed he’d give you the direction and when you yield to his leading, you’ll be free, you’ll be effective, you’ll miss destruction, and get a supernatural result

a.    EX: You’re mad b/c your computer won’t work and if you’d seek direction rather than be mad he’d show you what to do to get it to work

2.      If you sought Him, you’d get it and if you got it and yielded to it, you’d see victory

3.      1 Samuel 30:1-8-David could have missed is victory if he would have spent his time yielding to negative emotions, but rather he sought God, got direction, and won

D.    If you’re going to seek (aim) him that involves separating yourself from everything else and looking only unto him  

1.      You can be in a situation where all hell is breaking loose & be totally separate from it

2.      You got to separate yourself from your feelings, your thoughts, what you want, what people are saying, what the devil is saying and aim for direction from God

3.      Matthew 14:13,23, Mark 9:2-Jesus separated himself
