Means Of Communication
I. The Holy Spirit Speaks to us
A.
John 16:13-The Holy Speaks and Jesus said he
will speak to you
B.
John 10:4,27-Jesus declared you know his
voice, hear his voice, and follow it
1. Agree with the Master
II. The Holy Spirit communicates
with your spirit
A.
Romans 8:17-The Holy Spirit utters, testifies
to our spirit
1. Testify-To give testimony for the purpose of communicating to others a
knowledge of something not known to them
2. If he could tell your spirit that you’re born again, he could tell your
spirit other stuff
B.
Your spirit is the “tool/instrument” through
which the Holy Spirit communicates to you
1. The HS doesn’t communicate with you through your head, intellect, or
feelings
C.
Since we know the Holy Spirit is going to
communicate with our spirit we need to learn look to your spirit and not your
head or emotions
1. EX: If I’m going to call you then you shouldn’t wait by the frig, you
should wait by the phone b/c that is how you’re going to hear me, through the
phone; You won’t hear me through the frig b/c that’s not how I’m going to
communicate with you
III. Why no voices?
A.
1 Corinthians 2:9-16-We have the mind of
Christ
1. 9-12-We’ve been give the Spirit of God so that we might know things and
He communicates those things to us through our spirit
B.
John 14:16-17-The Holy Spirit is in you, in
your spirit
1. What if I could take my mind out of me and put it you?
2. If I could take my spirit and mind and put it in you, then audible words
would be unnecessary for me to communicate to you
a.
If I thought something my thoughts are in
your mind and you know what I thought
b.
You could pick up a thought from my mind
faster than the speed of light and I could communicate realms of things to you
in a split second
3. This level of communication is available to us by the Holy Spirit inside
of us
a.
He is in your spirit and His mind has access
to your mind and your spirit is in Him and your mind has access to His mind
C.
The leading of the spirit so much of the time
comes just like a thought
1. Things come up from your from your spirit and you just know something
a.
It’s an immediate knowing of something w/o
conscious use of reason
b.
You just know without hearing anything when
somebody is inside of you
2. Much of what the HS speaks to you is not a voice at all, but an inward
knowing
a.
Carnal people will gravitate toward natural
and ask God to speak to them through the audible voice, not realizing God is a
spirit, He’s in my spirit, and I don’t need words to get direction
IV. If I want to hear from Holy
Spirit then I need to be aware of and conscious of my spirit
A.
1 Corinthians 2:14-The natural man cannot
receive the things of the of the Spirit of God because they are spiritually
discerned, the Holy Spirit communicates to spirit and they are not conscious of
or aware of their own spirit
1. The unsaved man can’t be led
by the spirit of God-His spirit is dead
2. The saved carnal man won’t be
led by the spirit of God-He’s not aware of his spirit
B.
One of the main problems with people being
led by the Spirit is that they don’t even know that they are a spirit being
& if they do know they aren’t consciously aware of it
1. I am a spirit, I have a soul, I live in a body-1 Thessalonians 5:23
2. If you are unaware of your own spirit you won’t pick up the leading of
the Holy Spirit
3. It’s like being on the wrong channel, when you’re trying to contact Him
and hear from Him with your head
4. Generally people are not taught to pay attention to what they get in
their spirits
C.
Exercising your spirit will make you more
aware of your spirit and enable you to be better led by the Holy Spirit-1
Timothy 4:7-8
1.
Exercise makes you more aware of what’s being
exercised
a.
EX: If you did some calf raises today you’d
be more aware of your calves tomorrow because they’ll be a little sore from
that exercise
2.
The more you exercise your spirit your spirit
the more aware of your spirit you become and the stronger your spirit gets
a.
A big key to being more sensitive to the Holy
Spirit and His leadings is must exercise your spirit;
b.
You practice operating out of your spirit
(Faith confessions, Praise & Worship, praying in the Holy Spirit)
3.
Being unaware of a thing, will keep you from
using it (EX: Key to the hallway)
a.
If you’re unaware of your own spirit you
won’t use it to hear from the Holy Spirit
D.
People exercise their head, emotions,
intellect and feelings so much that they are ultra-sensitive to those things
and insensitive to their own spirit & the Holy Spirit
1. If you are more head conscious and body conscious than you are spirit
conscious and you have some weak little malnourished spirit you will be more
aware of your head and body and when The Holy Spirit speaks to your spirit you’ll
be unaware of it
2. EX: It’s like the husband who is more aware of the TV than the phone or
his wife; the phone’s ringing, but he’s not aware of it
a.
He’s learned to be sensitive to the TV and
desensitize himself to the phone
3.
Acts 13:2-Spiritual exercise makes you more
aware of your spirit; The more of aware of your spirit you are, the more aware
of the Holy Spirit you’ll be b/c he deals with your spirit when dealing with
you
E.
We’ve got to learn to be look to our spirit
and become more aware of our spirit
V. Sensitive to the leading
A.
Hebrews 3:8-Don’t harden your heart
B.
Romans 2:14-15-The conscience is the voice of
your spirit
C.
Romans 9:2-Your conscience/your spirit gets
it from the Holy Spirit
D.
1 Timothy 4:2-You can sere your conscience
E.
1 Thessalonians 5:19-Don’t quench the Holy
Spirit
