Doing The Word

Foundation Statement: Through attachment to the Word you become a doer of the word and develop spiritually. The key to being a doer of the Word is attachment.  You can’t do the Word beyond your level of commitment to attach yourself to the Word.  The level of your attachment determines the output of your performance. You have four attachment points: eyes, ears, mouth, mind. The attached word will make your inner man whole and cause you to grow spiritually.  You have to listen for the purpose of being trained. If we don’t make the application of the Word part of our daily lives are growth will be impossibility.

I.      Through attachment to the word you become a doer of the word and develop spiritually – James 1:19:25

A.    If we don’t make the application of the Word part of our daily lives are growth will be an impossibility

1.      How then do I make application of the Word part of my daily life?

2.      Practice of the Word becomes more prevalent when fellowship with the Father is maintained; If you’ll practice is presence, you’ll be more likely to practice His Word-Proverbs 3:1-6

B.     The key to being a doer of the word is attachment (Goes-To go away, depart; Forgets-No longer caring for, neglecting; Continues-Remain beside, continues always near)

1.      James 1:22-They both looked into the law of liberty but it’s what you do after you look that is going to determine whether you are a doer of the Word

a.    24-He looks (sonsiders attentively, fix eyes or mind upon); so this is someone who is engaged in what he is hearing; He goes his way and forgets and neglects and no longer cares for what he saw when he looked; We see a separating and neglecting leading to not being a doer; And you left because you didn’t care enough to keep looking

b.    25-AND-It’s not just looking into it, the first guy did that, it’s looking into it and continuing to look-He cared enough to keep looking

1)       If I want to be a doer of the word and develop spiritually then I must stay attached to the Word all the time

c.     25-Not that man (V24) THIS MAN (V25) shall be blessed

2.      Joshua 1:8-Why is God telling Him to attach like this? So that you may do it; If you don’t attach yourself to it you won’t be able to be a doer of it

a.    Attachment with the mouth-Shall not depart out of your mouth; If it doesn’t leave your mouth then it’s attached to your mouth

b.    Attachment with the mind-Meditate-To utter, to mutter, muse, speak, study; To dwell on anything in thought, to turn or revolve in the mind

1)       People negatively meditate in worry day and night all and if they’d practice doing it with the Word they’d develop in it

c.     Attachment all the time-There are 2 parts of a day: Day and Night; So means that you’re attached to the word at all times

d.    We start to see this pattern: Attachment to the word leads to the doing of the word and that leads to being blessed

3.      Deuteronomy 11:13-25-Therefore-If you bind yourself to these words you’ll be a doer of these words and be blessed

a.    Attachment in the heart-Lay up-Plant, fix, station, set in place; If you’re laying them in your heart then where you go they go

b.    Attachment-Bind-Tie, bind together; Tie them to your hand and forehead

c.     Attachment-Teach them to your children; Talk about the Word all the time; Write them on the door posts of your house and on your gates so that you’ll see them coming and going; MSG-Talk about them from the time you get up in the morning until you fall into bed at night

d.    This is more than just reading some in the morning – We’re talking about attachment all the time – We are talking about living the Word

4.      Proverbs 4:20-22-You have 4 attachment points-Eyes, ears, mouth, mind

a.    Attend-Be attentive, give attention; Incline-Extend; Depart-Lost from view; Keep-Treasure up

C.    If you want to develop spiritually you have to be a doer of the word, but if you don’t attach yourself to the word you won’t be a doer of the Word; And therefore you level of attachment to the word actually determines your development because no attachment > no doing > no developing

II.     You can’t do the Word beyond above your level of commitment to attach yourself to the Word; The level of your attachment determines the output of your performance; If your attachment to the Word is low your application of the Word CANNOT be high

A.    You can’t live on a level beyond of what you are willing to eat

1.      1 Timothy 4:7-You can’t eat old wives’ fables and exercise yourself unto godliness – You can’t train towards godliness and eat that junk

2.      1 Corinthians 9:25-To run your race you have to train and your level of training is going to determine the type of race you can run

B.     You can’t train like an amateur and perform like a professional; You can’t train like most “christians” and live like Christ; You want to be a spiritual giant then you got to eat a certain way-2 Timothy 3:4

1.      We talk about living these glorious types of lives where we are doing the works of Jesus, having miracles and victory in every area, being used of God in a mighty way but I think we’ve underestimated the type of commitment to the Word it takes to live like that

2.      You can live like that, you’re supposed to live like that, you should be striving to live like that, but you can’t live like that and eat and train like an amateur; Our dreams can’t be high while our process and practice is low

C.    Do I have to do that? No you don’t have to do that, but how do you want to live; It seems hard-Wrong thought; Is it worth it?

III.   This word becomes my life and as a result my inner man starts to grow

A.    We live by the Word, We live by God, We live by faith-John 6:57, Matthew 4:4, Hebrews 10:38

1.      This word has got to become your life-Prov4:22,John6:63,Col3:4 (Not just something you read in the morning, but how you live everyday)

a.    Matthew 4:4-ERV-Their lives depend on what God says; EXB-A person lives not on bread alone, but by everything that God says; NLV-Man is to live by every word that God speaks; WE-He needs to live by every Word that God says

b.    We can’t clock it where the Word is concerned; We read in the morning for this long and then we unhook – No I live the Word

2.      Because I live by the Word I filter every experience, every thought, every circumstance, every occurrence, every happening through this word and then I make it my practice to conform my thoughts, my beliefs and my actions to line up with what Word; It is the governing entity over my life

a.    We are not living like this and as a result daily application of the Word has not been in place

3.      We’ve made the mistake of only practicing the Word when the pressure gets really great and that limits our effectiveness in times of pressure

B.     The attached word will make your inner man whole, cause you to grow spiritually

1.      This saving of the soul is not talking about being born again;

a.    18-Your spirit was born again in V18 and now in V21 your soul needs to be saved/made whole and that comes through the engrafted word

b.    19-My beloved brethren – The people he’s righting to apparently are already born again

c.     21-1 Cor13:11-Paul said I put away childish things and putting stuff away refers to spiritual growth not spiritual salvation and so verse 21 is talking bout spiritual growth, not spiritual salvation; You don’t put away filthiness and then get saved, you get saved and then put away filthiness

2.      The word that is attached will cause you’re inner man to be made whole; It causes your spirit to develop and your mind to be renewed

a.    Soul-Seat of feelings, desires, affections, aversions; The soul as an essence which differs from the body

b.    Engrafted-To attach something permanently to something else; To plant or introduce something foreign into that which is native for the purpose of propagation (spreading)-As that word begins to spread and over take the soul you are developing spiritually

Foundation Statement: Training in the word cause my perspectivce to be like Jesus’ perspective and it’s at this place that major spiritual growth takes place. Your perspective determines your response. You can respond like Jesus if you see it like he sees it.  If you’ll practice looking at every situation from the perspective of the word of God and being willing to do it what it says you can get to the place where you see like Jesus sees and respond like he responds.

IV.   Training in the word causes my perspective to be like Jesus’ perspective-At this place major spiritual growth begins to take place

A.    Heb5:14-Senses-Faculty of the mind for perceiving, understanding, judging; How you see it, how you understand it, how you judge it; Its your perspective

1.      1 Corinthians 13:11-When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood (faculty for perceive and judging) as a child, I thought as a child

a.    When he was a child he had the perspective of a child, but with maturity something happened to his perspective; you gain perspective

2.      Your perspective determines your response; You can’t respond like Jesus until you see it like he sees it

a.    When you respond wrong it’s because you saw it wrong, you thought wrong, you understood wrong

3.      It’s not just seeing what’s good and bad, it’s seeing in every situation of life what is going to help the most and what is troublesome and destructive

a.    There’s an inherent thing in nearly every human being that inside they know what’s right and wrong; This verse isn’t talking about that

b.    Discern-Distinguish, decide, determine; Good-Useful, suitable, choice, excellent; Bad-Troublesome, injurious, destructive

B.     My perspective can be trained-I’m exercising my senses/perspective, I’m training them vigorously - Exercised-Exercise vigorously

1.      My perspective can be trained to see it like the master sees it so I can respond like he responds and that is maturity

a.    You can actually get to the place where a situation arises and you see it like Jesus sees it and you respond like he would respond without having to think to do so –That’s having your senses exercised to discern both good and evil

2.      If you are willing to practice you can get to the place where you see, think, understand like Jesus and in turn respond like Jesus

a.    You’ll have to practice looking at every situation from the perspective of the word of God and then be willing to do what it says; I’m going to the manual and practicing and going to the manual and practicing and as I’m doing that my perspective is changing

b.    We want tot get to the place where we see everything through the lens of God’s word

c.     My thinking and understanding and perspective can’t be like Jesus’ if I don’t practice the Word

3.      Renewing the mind is not the process of filling your head with knowledge, but instead it’s actually changing the way you think and see and perceive and in turn respond and that doesn’t happen cause you come to church a couple days a week – That happens when you live the Word

Foundation Statement: God uses people to feed you the Word of God. Who did He send into your life to feed you.  You got to watch jumping around from preacher to preacher because there are divine connections that God has made for you, people you are supposed to stay hooked to.  We grow by the 5-fold ministry gifts. God sends a preacher to initiate change and growth in your life.  If all you needed was a bible to grow up God wouldn’t have given you these gifts.  If you’re going to grow up you have to make much of the Word and much of the vehicles God uses to get you the word.

V.    To grow to another level you have to exercise at another level and to exercise at another level you have to eat at another level – Who’s feeding you?

A.    God uses people to feed you both the milk of the Word and the meat of the Word-1 Corinthians 3:2-I have fed you

1.      Hebrews13:7-Who are you following? Who is preaching the Word of God to you? Who are you sitting under? Be on the watch against jumping around

2.      John 6:63-They left when they should have stayed – You will be tempted to leave the ones God has connected you with

3.      1 Corinthians 4:15-There are divine connections and God hasn’t connected you with every preacher in the body of Christ – There are certain things you need that you’re only going to be able to get from the ones God has hooked you with

4.      EX: You can cook something, but not like a five star chef can cook you something

B.     Ephesians 4:8,11-We grow by the 5-fold ministry gift

1.      If all you needed to grow up was a Bible, God wouldn’t have spoken about these ministry gifts in such a way

2.      Romans 10, Matthew 13-God sends a preacher to bring the world to build faith to spark change

3.      This is not about making much of flesh, this is about making much of God-Matthew 10:40, 1 Thessalonians 2:13

C.    If you’re going to grow up you need to make much of the Word and much of the vehicles God uses to get you that word

1.      The Word of God and the vehicles God uses to get me that word, people that are mature, will esteem those two things very highly – If you don’t value the word (which you grow by) and the five-fold ministry gifts (which you’re perfected by) you won’t grow

2.      You won’t desire what you don’t not value – If you don’t value the word, you won’t desire the Word and you won’t grow

a.    Most people on the planet don’t think enough of the Word of God to go to any kind of service or even own a Bible and read it

3.      If we value God, we value doing what God says; If we value doing what God says (our ministry) we value growing up; if we value growing up, we value the Word of God because we grow by the Word; If we value the word we value the vehicle or vessel God used to the Word to us-Romans 10:10-17

a.    You got to be at a place spiritually to even receive some of these things-So many Christians come to church, haven’t spent time in the Word all week, they are weak, malnourished, worn out, tired and can’t handle strong teaching or instruction, but just want to be encouraged; When you live like that you’ll never grow-You got to get on solid ground before you can build a house-1Sam30:6
