Serve God, Have Money
I.
LIE: You can’t serve God
and have money. It didn’t say you can’t serve God and
have money. It said you can’t serve God and money-Matt 6:24
A. Who has the place of your
head?
1. Serve-To obey, submit to, give
one's self to, devotion with disregard of your own interests; (RR) This
word describes a servant or slave who had become such for the rest of his
life. This servant’s lifetime was
service to his master with all his attention, time, and energy. He caters to the master’s every wish,
desire, and demand. He’s there to
help, assist, and fulfill his master’s wants and dreams at the exclusion of all else.
2. Master-He to whom a
person or thing belongs; one who has control of
3. You can’t have two heads;
if you make decisions based on money instead of what the Spirit of God is
leading you to do, then money is your head
a. Dan 2:32-35, Colossians
1:18-The head of the gold he made representing gold is the head in that system;
Jesus is the head in our system
1)
You’re
going to go where your head tells you to go
a)
Money
is your head you’ll go where it tells to go
2)
You
can’t have two heads
b. If you’ve ever made a
decision in life based on money instead of the leading of the spirit you just
made it your master
c. If you’ve given money THE PLACE of the Head in your life then
it’s out of place because that’s Jesus’ place
4. There’s an enormous
amount of self-deception in this area; where believers are in pride over how
developed they believe they are in this area
a. EX: Many of them picked
their job because it paid the most
b. EX: When it’s offering
time many of them ask what can we give
c. EX: When it’s time to go
buy something they allow the money they have to determine what they get
d. EX: They don’t tithe
because money tells them they can’t
5. When it’s time to make a
decision we never ask money what should we do. We ask God what should we do and if it
looks like we don’t have the money to do what He’s telling us to do, then we believe Him for it.
a. Money is never a good
reason to do or not do something
B. You can’t serve two
masters because you’ll prefer one to the other. One will tell you to go a way that the
other is telling to not to go and you’ll chose.
1. Love-Preference, prize it above other things, unwilling to
abandon it or do without it, steadfastly cleave to, set your heart on, attached
or committed to it
a. Hold-Cleave, holdfast, paying heed to
b. Because you prefer it and
prize it above other things you are unwilling to abandon it, your attached and
committed to it
2. Hate-To love less, to esteem less, to slight, disregard,
indifference, of relative preference for one thing over another
a. Despise-Think little or nothing of, to think down upon, to think
slightly
3. We got to find out who
your head is
4. Balance: In comparison to
God money means very little to me.
I’m not attached to money; I’m attached to God. If was going to cost me everything I had
to stay with him, I wouldn’t even have to think about it. At the same time I understand the importance
of money in doing what He’s called me to do and I’m believing
for and abundance of it, but never value it above Him.
a. Malachi 1:6-13,12AMP-They
valued their stuff more than they valued God
b. Malachi 3:10-14-If you’ll
get things in place I’ll bless you
abundantly
C. Matthew 6:24-33
1. 24-It didn’t say he
shouldn’t serve two masters it said he couldn’t; That tells me I’m going to
have to make a choice for who I’m going to serve
a. You’re going to have to
make a decision of quality concerning this that you’ll never make one decision
based on money
b. You don’t have to chose
to have God or money; you have to chose who you’re going to give the place of
your head
2. 25-Therefore-Because you
can’t serve two masters
a. Take no thought-He’s not
telling you not to think about it or plan for it; he’s telling you stop
worrying and being anxious about it
b. When you’re worrying
about money and things how can Jesus be your head when he told you to not let
your heart be troubled
1)
When
you’re worrying He’s not your master
2)
When
you worry about lack of money or stuff, it’s your master because it’s telling
you to worry
3. 31-Therefore stop
worrying and be anxious-What for?
a. 1) Because God takes care
of the birds and you’re better than them
b. 2) Because worrying won’t
add one good thing to you
c. 3) Because the lilies of
the field grow without toil and Solomon was not arrayed like these and if God
clothed them He’ll much more clothe you
4. 33-If you’ll get things
in the proper place all that you’ll ever need, want, or desire will be added to
you in abundance
a. It said in your seeking
see to it that He is first---PROPER
PLACE
1)
It
didn’t say don’t seek things; It
didn’t say don’t have things, it
didn’t say don’t believe for or desire
things-Mk 11:24
b. When I sought Him and His
way He said Mark 11:24, John 15:7, Matthew 7:11, Romans 8:32, 1 Timothy 6:17
1)
33-God’s
not saying don’t have things because He said if you seek Him and the things
will be added unto you
c. 25,33-Because you can’t
serve two masters serve this one and you’ll have all the things you need and
because they’re your needs I’ll meet them according to my riches-Philippians
4:19
II.
Money never gets my glory
A. If you’ve placed money
with your glory, then its out of place
B. Jeremiah 9:23-24-It
didn’t say don’t have riches; it said don’t glory in them
1. I glory in God, knowing
Him, and the loving kindness that He’s showed to me in causing this thing to
manifest in my life
2. The praise is not in the
thing, but in the fact that God loves you enough to manifest the thing
