Not My Trust

Foundation Statement: Money never gets the place my trust (Mark 10:24)

I.      If money has your trust then it’s not in its proper place

A.    John 14:1, Mark 11:22-The place for your trust is in Him

1.     Believe-Place confidence in, be persuaded of, to trust

2.     Trust-To place confidence in

3.     Rely-To rest on something as the mind when satisfied of the integrity or ability of a person or thing; to depend on; that which is ground of confidence is a certainty or full conviction that satisfies the mind and leaves it at rest, undisturbed by doubt

B.     1 Timothy 6:17-Don’t trust in uncertain riches; put your trust in a certain God

1.     Trust-Joyful expectation

2.     Riches are uncertain, but God who is certain will richly give you all things

3.     I don’t feel security because I have or don’t have money

C.    Psalm 52:1-9

1.     7-God is my place of safety, security, and refuge

2.     7-He felt safe and secure and care free because of his riches

3.     8-We trust in the covenant love of God and feel safe and secure and care-free because of it

4.     It’s not having riches that’s bad; it’s trusting in them that is

D.    Proverbs 11:28-He didn’t say you’ll fall because you have riches, it said you’ll fall because you trust in them

1.     If you’re not leaning on money and things, they could be taken out from under you and it not affect you because you’re not leaning on them

a.    I don’t trust money; I trust God and he gets me the money

2.     Failure is inevitable when you trust in riches

a.    The reason is because trusting in them will keep you from obeying God with them and apart from that you cannot succeed

b.    Trusting in money will keep you from sowing your best and your last

II.     Mark 4:19-The deceitfulness of riches-Tendency to mislead or deceive, to lead a person to believe what is false

A.    The deceitfulness of riches is riches telling you than they can do for you what only God can do; It’s riches telling you they can be your security and fulfillment

1.     It’s materialism in the truest sense of the word; Believing that having a possession or money can do something for you that only God can do

2.     You’re trusting/relying on money to do God’s job and it is out of its place

B.     Don’t lean on, trust, or rely on riches for security and fulfillment

1.     EX: You might trust in what you stored up to be your security.  You might trust that having a certain possession will in someway fulfill you or that you can’t be happy in life without it. If you think if I sow this then what am I going to use; you’re not trusting God.

2.     Riches are uncertain (1 Timothy 6:17) and fulfillment doesn’t come from riches it’s comes from doing what the Master says (John 4:34)

C.    Who’s got your trust? To whom do you lean?

III.   Mark 10:23-24-It said it’s hard for those you trust in riches to enter into the Kingdom of God; it didn’t say those who have riches can’t enter into the Kingdom of God; It’s hard to enter into God’s way of doing things when your trust is in your riches and not in Him

A.    Money wasn’t his problem, it was the wrong relationship with money that was his problem; He was too attached to it

1.     A major part of not trusting in your stuff is being willing to let go of it

2.     28-We have left all-we let go of it no longer looking to it to do for us what only you can do

B.     I can let you go because:

1.     I don’t trust in you or rely on you

2.     I don’t get my security from you

3.     I don’t get my fulfillment from you

4.     I know I’ll see you again, but you’ll be a 100x greater

C.    The eye of a needle

1.     You had to unload your camel that was packed with all your stuff and let go of it and put it in someone else’s hands and then take the camel through and trust that they’d give you your stuff back

2.     When you come into God’s way of doing things you got to put all that you have in the hands of God (that doesn’t mean that you have to get rid of it, it just means you have to make it available to him by offering it to him) and trust that when you enter into His way of doing things whatever He requires of you He’ll load you back up again hundredfold

D.    There’s a principle here: People who trust in money are not qualified for more of it because of their unwillingness to let go of it

1.     This rich young ruler was on the verge of being richer than he ever had before and if he would have just relinquished his trust in money and put it Jesus he would have saw much more of it

2.     Ezekiel 16:4-28-God prospered them in abundance, but they began to trust in their prosperity

IV.   Luke 12:15-Beware of covetousness

A.    If Jesus is saying pay attention and beware and we’re not doing that with covetousness and we think we’re clean from it we’re not

B.     Covetousness-It’s the I have to have it mentality or a can’t be fulfilled because my life consist of having it
