No Trust
I.
There are two major areas
where money must never get place: YOUR LOVE, YOUR TRUST-1 Timothy 6:10-18
A. It’s our relationship
with money and the place we give it that God is interested in
B. He never said don’t have,
it said that which you have enjoy, be ready to distribute willing to
communicate
C. Loving and trusting in
money will keep you from sowing your best, only, and all; it will keep God from
your treasure and it’ll keep you from His
II.
Money never gets the
place my trust (Mark 10:24)
A. Mark 4:19-The
deceitfulness of riches-Tendency to mislead or deceive, to lead a person to
believe what is false
1. The deceitfulness of
riches is riches trying to get you to believe that they for you what only God
can do; It’s riches trying to get you to believe that they can provide you with
security and fulfillment
a. It’s deceitful because it
looks like they can provide those, but they can’t
b. If you believe the
deceitfulness of riches you’ll be in materialism
in the truest sense of the word; Believing that having a material possession or
money can do something for you that only God can do
c. You’re trusting/relying
on money to do God’s job and it is out of its place
B. People lean on, trust in,
and rely on riches for security and fulfillment
1. Riches are uncertain (1
Timothy 6:17)
a. 1 Tim 6:17-Don’t trust in
uncertain riches; trust in a certain God
1)
God
who is certain will richly give you all things
b. I don’t feel secure
because I have or don’t have money; I feel secure because I have God and His
Word
c. To not trust money is 2
be able 2 feel secure independent of the money u have
2. Fulfillment doesn’t come
from riches, money, and possessions; it’s comes from doing what the Master says
(John 4:34)
C. Who’s got your trust? To
whom do you lean?
III.
If money has you’re the
place of your trust then it’s not in its proper place
A. John 14:1-God is supposed
to have the place of your trust
1. I rest with a satisfied
mind undisturbed by doubt because I have God and trust Him; not because I have
money and trust it
B. Psalm 52:1-9-It’s not
having riches that’s bad; it’s trusting in them that is
1. 7-This guy didn’t make
God his place of safety, protection, and refuge
a. He felt safe and secure
and care-free because of his riches
2. 8-The leaf of the olive
of tree stays green & moist throughout the year; it never withers
3. 8-We trust(confidence
in, secure, feel safe, care-free)in the covenant love of God
a. A blood covenant was used
by God to come down to the level of man and show him the seriousness and
unchangeableness of the agreement that was being made; blood is serious and has
a distinct smell, you don’t forget blood
1)
Today
he’d write up a contract and leave himself no way out
b. 1. Animals were split
open and their blood was poured out so that this agreement would be made
standing in blood 2. Exchange coats: who I am and what I am 3. Exchange belt of
weapons: “I’m giving you my strength. Your enemies are mine. Even if I die,
I’ll stand with you and lend you my sword.” 4. Walk of Blood: “Even as this
animal has died, I will stand with you even in the midst of death. Standing in
blood I make promises that I’ll never break.” 5. Promises made 6.Swear to the
greater 7. Flesh Cut 8. Hand is lifted: “I’ll keep the terms of this covenant
so help me God.” 9. Seal/Scar of the covenant 10. Name change 11. Covenant
Friends 12. Meal: “Take me-all that I am.
Eat of me I’m yours. Drink
my life’s blood as I drink yours. I
see you fulfilling the terms of the covenant as I fulfill your life. This is the blood of my life. Drink my
life.
c. Because he stood in blood
and swore by Himself that’s why I trust, have confidence and feel safe and
secure (Is 54:10, Heb 6:11-12)
C. Proverbs 11:28-Failure is
inevitable when you trust in (uncertain) riches
1. The reason is because
trusting in them will keep you from obeying God with them and apart from that
you cannot succeed
2. If you’re not leaning on
money and things, they could be taken out from under you and it not affect you
because you’re not leaning on them
3. Trusting in money will
keep you from sowing your best, only, and last
IV. Mark 10:23-24-It said it’s hard for those who trust in riches
to enter into the Kingdom of God; it didn’t say those who have riches can’t enter into the Kingdom of God
A. It’s hard to enter into
God’s way when your trust is in your riches and not in Him
1. 23-It’s hard for those
who hold to, cling to, & who are joined to riches 2 enter KOG
2. 24-It’s hard for those
who have confidence in riches to enter the KOG
B. Money wasn’t his problem,
it was the wrong relationship with money that was his problem; He was too attached to it
1. A major part of not
trusting in your stuff is being willing to let
go of it
2. 28-We have left all-we let go of it no longer
looking to it to do for us what only you can do
C. I can let you go because:
1) I don’t trust in you or rely on you 2) I don’t get my security from you 3) I
don’t get my fulfillment from you 4) I know I’ll see you again, but you’ll be a
100x greater
D. The eye of a needle
1. You had to unload your
camel that was packed with all your stuff and let go of it and put it in someone else’s hands and then take the
camel through and trust that they’d
give you your stuff back
2. When you come into God’s
way of doing things you got to put all that you have in the hands of God (that
doesn’t mean that you have to get rid of it, it just means you have to make it
available to him by offering it to him) and trust that when you enter into His
way of doing things whatever He requires of you He’ll load you back up again
hundredfold
E. There’s a principle here:
People who trust in money are not qualified for more of it because of their
unwillingness to let go of it
1. This rich young ruler was
on the verge of being richer than he ever had before and if he would have just
relinquished his trust in money and put it Jesus he would have saw much more of
it
2. Ezekiel 16:4-28
