Honor: Seeing The True Vale
I.
Our honor has been
misplaced and we need to do a much better job of attaching the proper value on
things
A. Jesus honored the Father
(John 4:34, 5:30, 8:29)
1. What’s important to God
is what’s important to Him
II.
We must see the
true value of things, else wise we will dishonor them
A. There’s two different
value systems
1. John 5:41,44-You value
men honoring you, I value God’s honor
a. That didn’t seek the
honor that comes from God b/c they didn’t value it; it wasn’t that important to
them. The honor that comes from men
was important to them
b. Jesus valued pleasing the
Master; they valued men honoring them
c. 1 Samuel 16:7 – You
value the outward appearance I value the heart
2. Matthew 7:6-Dogs don’t honor
that which is holy and hogs don’t honor pearls because they don’t see
the value of them
a. What you don’t see the
value of you won’t honor; It is vitally important then that we see the true
value of things

If
we are going to honor God and His things it is key that we see the true value
of Him and His things
b. A characteristic of
children is they don’t see the true value of things
c. When we don’t see the
true value of God and His things we’ll we not show them the proper respect and
in turn be irreverent towards Him
3. What men see as important
often times God sees as meaningless
a. What God sees as
important often times men don’t have
time for it

b. Open up the eyes of our
heart and help us to see the real value of things
B. We must attach the proper
value to things. We can say God’s
worthy, but are we proving that He is worthy with our lifestyle.
1. Matthew 13:44-46-The KOG
(God and His things) is worth all that we got
a. This 1 pearl was worth
all that he had; he saw the value of it and in turn honored it
2. Lk 14:16-33-There are
things more valuable 2 us than u; They dishonored him
a. When something is
valuable to you, you’ll drop everything
b. They didn’t see the
value of this dinner; didn’t see the value of being his disciples
3. Philippians 3:1-10-His
value system was reset because he saw the true value
a. He values: 1) The
anointing, 2)The knowledge of Jesus Christ my Lord, 3)
Being found in him, 4) Not having my own righteousness 5) Knowing him and the
power out flowing from his resurrection

Are we to value a sheep more than we value a man
III.
What you see as valuable
of you will honor
A. Mark 6:1-6 – Jesus
was dishonored in his home town
1. Why was Jesus sent to His
home town? To do Luke 4:16
a. People died that didn’t
have to, people remained sick that didn’t have to
2. They didn’t value him as
being important
a. They didn’t see his true
value
and in turn they dishonored him and in turn he wasn’t able to honor them
b. His value was he’s here
to teach us, heal us, deliver us, set us free
3. The dishonored Jesus in
how they referred to him
B. Genesis 25:29-34, Hebrews
12:16
1. Birthright
a. The ruling head of the
family, spiritual leader, priest of the family
b. The firstborn became head
of the family and thus succeeded to the charge of the family
c. He also, as head,
succeeded to a considerable amount of authority over the other members.
d. The Father’s blessing
e. Choice of the family
lands
f.
Double
portion of what his father had to leave
g. Further, he generally
received the blessing, which placed him in close and favored
covenant-relationship with Yahweh.
2. Esau didn’t see the
value his birthright and at that time he valued and honored food for his
hungry belly more than his birthright
a. Jacob saw the value of
that birthright
C. 2 Kings 4:8 – The
Shunammite woman
1. This woman saw the
value of the man of God and it led to her honoring him
a. How many other people had
the opportunity to build a room on their house for the man of God
2. She honored God and God
honored her
D. John 12:3
1. 3-This perfume was worth
a years wages
a. In her mind Jesus was
worthy (worth it); she saw the true value of him
2. Judas is dishonoring
Jesus because he’s saying that Jesus isn’t worth it
IV.
We see your honor for a
thing in how you:
A. Refer to that thing or
speak about that thing
1. Jesus is my Master, Lord,
King, covenant friend, My brother; he’s not my homeboy
a. It our attempt to be free
people we’ve become so casual in how we refer to him that it has been at times
irreverent
b. We are not going to be
rigid and uptight, but we also are not going to be so loose and casual that
it’s irreverent
2. Mark 6 – The
referred to him as the carpenter or Mary and Joseph’s boy
B. Hear that person
1. Luke 10:16-How you hear
the one he sent, is how you hear and treat him
2. James 1:19-A way of
showing respect is to be still and listen
3. You listen differently to
something that you think is valuable
a. When the Lord is talking
you shouldn’t be trying to do a bunch of different things
C. Confer upon that thing
1. Proverbs 3:9 –
Honor the Lord with your substance
2. John 12:3 – She
conferred honor upon Jesus
3. Matthew 15:8 – We
are to confer our stuff upon our parents
D. How you treat that thing
& How you see them-John 8:48
1. 49-They didn’t see the
true value of him and in turn they didn’t honor him
2. 53-They were saying, “Who do you think you are?”
a. The reality was not that
Jesus was thinking too highly of himself, but they weren’t thinking highly
enough of him
3. The dishonored Jesus in:
a. How they heard him;Every time he would say something the would say that he was
lying or questions the truth of what he was saying
b. How they referred to him;
That said he had a devil
c. How the treated him; They
picked up stones to kill him
