The God Of Excess
Foundation Statement: Many of my people have
been lied to about who I really I am.
I want you to introduce them to the Overflowing supplier. The God who will make
you excessively rich.
I.
The enemy is always
trying to paint a false picture of who God really is in the hearts of people
A. Genesis 3-The first thing
that Satan tried to do with Adam was to paint a false picture of God on his
heart
1.
There’s
something God doesn’t want you to see, doesn’t want you to be doesn’t what you
to know
B. If you get a false image
of God in your heart victory over the enemy is not possible-Matthew 16:13-18
1.
Some
saw Him one way others saw him another way and it is still that way today
2.
Blessed-When
you see him properly it empowers you; A revelation of who God is, is the
foundation to victory over the forces of darkness; The darker your revelation
of God the more hell will prevail over you
C. An inaccurate image of
who He is will keep you from receiving what He has
1.
The
people who saw Jesus accurately received the most from his ministry
a. Mark 6-They didn’t see
who he was and therefore he couldn’t be who he was to them
b. Whatever you don’t see God as, He cannot be in your life
2.
In
any area you see who God is, you’re going to release your faith for God to be
that in your life
D. Phil3:10-There’s
many layers to God that we have yet to see and we should purpose to know him better
1.
There’s
still many facets to God that we have to be introduced to
2.
God is endeavoring to introduce
Himself to you in a new way, so that He can do a new thing in your life
3.
Many
people close their eyes and won’t allow themselves to see who God really
is-Matt13:15
II.
Much of the church world
have the image of God that he wants us poor and humble or that God will prosper
you and meet your needs, but not excessively; Many people believe that there is
something godly about being broke, being modest; They believe they are closer to
God b/c of their poverty or lack of possessions
A. There’s been this attempt
by Satan to attach humility to poverty
1.
There’s
been this idea floating around that your humility is based on your outward possessions;
that a guy is humble because he is modest in what he wears and what he drives
a. EX: You’re humble if you
drive an 83 Toyota, but you’re proud if you drive 2014 BMW
2.
It’s unscriptural to attach lack
of material wealth to humility-Proverbs 22:4, 2 Chronicles 32:26
a. Poverty is not some badge of humility, but rather it’s
the mark of the proud
b. Humility brings prosperity; Pride brings poverty
3.
If
you think you’re humble because your poor or because you don’t have a lot you’re
in darkness
a. Humility is not
determined by the lack of outward possessions one has, but it‘s determined by
the inward condition of the heart
B. Deut15:4-5-Poverty is not some
badge of holiness but rather it’s the result of disobedience (ERV-There should not be any poor people in
your country because the Lord your God is giving you this land. And the Lord will greatly bless
you. But this will happen only if
you obey the Lord your God.)
1.
In any area of your life, if you
humble yourself and do what God says in his word you’re going to see His
prosperity poured out upon you in a very excessive way
2.
If your humility is attached to your prosperity that that
tells me some of us are not nearly as humble as we think we are
3.
Job 36:11-The level your of prosperity reveals the depth
of your obedience; Poverty is a result of pride and disobedience and therefore
poverty is unholy, unclean and it’s the result of an ungodly life
C. What is poverty? Poverty means lack or insufficiency
1.
Poverty comes in many different
levels-Extreme poverty is not having enough to keep yourself alive; A little
poverty might be something like not being able to make a payment on time; It’s
the same stuff just different measures and degrees of it
2.
If you don’t learn to disdain poverty on every level it
will remain in your life on some level
III.
God is a God of excess; He is the over-supplier, He is a
too much God
A. Excess is the will of God and the plan of God-John 10:10
1.
More abundantly-Exceeding abundantly
above, Exceedingly; Exceeding measure or need; Over and above; More than is
necessary; Super-added; Superior, extraordinary, surpassing, uncommon; Superiority,
more remarkable, more excellent
a. It’s
over and above what is necessary; This life that is more abundant is life that
exceeds need
b. Abundance
is you got all you need and then some but he said superabundance and that means
more than more than enough
c. Superabundant
in quality, Super abundant in quality and by implication excessive
2.
Jesus came that we might have life more abundantly
(not just to save us from hell)
a. He’s talking about the God-kind of life, God-quality of
life; the force that creates prosperity
3.
If you don’t believe in excess, then you don’t believe in
what Jesus came to do
B. God
introduces Himself as The God of Excess by demonstrating excess in the lives of
his people
1.
Genesis 13:2-And Abram was very (exceedingly) rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold
2.

menservants, and maidservants, and camels, and asses.
3.
Genesis 26:12- Isaac
sowed in that land, and received in the same year an
hundredfold: and the LORD
blessed him. And the man became great, and gained more and more until he became
very wealthy (exceedingly wealthy).
He owned flocks,
herds, and had a great supply of servants: and the Philistines envied him.
4.

and honor: and he made himself treasuries for silver, and for gold, and for
precious stones, and for spices, and for shields, and for all manner of
pleasant jewels; Storehouses also for the increase of corn, and wine, and oil;
and stalls for all manner of beasts, and cotes for flocks. Moreover he provided
him cities, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance: for God had given him substance very much (Exceedingly).
6.
1 Chronicles 29:25-And the
LORD magnified Solomon exceedingly
in the sight of all Israel; 1 Kings 10:23-So Solomon
exceeded all the kings of the earth for riches and for wisdom. 2 Chronicles 1:15-And Solomon made the
silver and gold at Jerusalem as plenteous as stones.
7.
Psalm 23:5-You prepare a
table before me in the presence of my enemies…my cup runs over (saturate)
8.
Luke 6:38-Give and it
shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over shall men given
into your bosom
9.
God placed Adam in the Garden Of Eden- which means, pleasure, Luxury, Delight, Paradise (Genesis
2:7)
a. Luxury-The
state of great comfort and extravagant living; an inessential, desirable item that is expensive; Extremely
comfortable, elegant, in a way that involves great expense
10.
God gave Noah Everything
11.
God blessed Joseph-Genesis-41:42 says, Pharaoh took off his
ring and put it on Joseph’s hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen,
put a gold chain around his neck & made him to ride in the second chariot
that he had
12.
The Children of Israel
left Egypt with their silver, their gold, their clothes and not one was sick
(Ex12,Ps105)
13.
Joshua was taken the
spoil of cities and Kings-Joshua 22:8-He said to them, Return with much riches to
your tents and with very much livestock, with sliver, gold, bronze, iron and
very much clothing
14.
God made David a multi-billionare.
David said the Temple has to be exceedingly magnificent. (1Chron22,29)
15.
God made Job the richest man in the East and then doubled
it.
16.
God gave Jehosophat a victory
where the spoil was so great (precious jewels and riches) that they spent three
days gathering it in and it was so much they couldn’t gather it all in
17.
God sent Ruth the mighty man of wealth and he said to her
I will do all that you require.
18.
The Psalmist said in a time of famine you will have
excess an oversupply, wealth and riches will be in your house and God will
bring you to wealthy place-Psalm 37:19, Psalm 112:3, 66:12
19.
Isaiah said God will not remove his covenant of peace from us. He said in Isaiah 54:11 O you afflicted [city],
storm-tossed and not comforted, behold, I will set your stones in fair colors
[in antimony to enhance their brilliance] and lay your foundations with
sapphires. And I will make your windows and
pinnacles of [sparkling] agates or
rubies, and your gates of [shining] carbuncles, and all your walls [of your
enclosures] of precious stones.
20. Jeremiah 33:9-God will prosper you so much that people will fear
and tremble because of it
21. In Ezekiel 11-13-God decked them with the best jewelry, clothes,
silver, and gold; the best food
22. Daniel-After Daniel interpret the dream the king made him
rich (showered many riches on him)
23. Zechariah-God said my cities shall overflow with prosperity;
You’re going to be a city without walls because you have so many cattle; He
also said the nations which have plundered you, for he who touches you, touches
he apple of God’s eye, I will shake my hand upon them and they will be a spoil
to their servants; He said the wealth of all the Heathen around them shall be
gathered together, gold, silver, apparel in great abundance
24. Malachi 3-He said he’s going to pour you out a blessing that
there’s not room enough to receive it
25.
2 Corinthians 9:8-And God
is able to make all grace abound (exceed) toward you; that ye, always having
all sufficiency in all things, may abound (exceed) to every good work:
C. Does God care whether or not you have stuff?
1.
Deut28:11-And
the Lord shall make you plenteous
(excess) in goods (pleasant, riches, valuable, wealth)
2.
Obadiah-Edom
messed with God’s people and his message to them was you shouldn’t have done
that
a. 13-You should not have entered into the gate of my people in
the day of their calamity; you should not have looked on their affliction in
the day of their calamity, nor have laid hands on their substance
b. 17-But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall
be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions
3.
God
doesn’t give you things to meet your needs; There’s no verse that says God
gives you things to meet your needs; He meets your needs but that’s not why he
gives you things; He gives you things for your enjoyment-1 Timothy 6:17
a. We’re trying to
get what we need and God’s trying to get to us what we would enjoy
b. He wants to give things to you richly-Abounding in material resources, great prosperity,
extravagant, lavishness; Awesome abundance, extreme wealth, immense riches
4.
Psalm 36:8-They shall be
abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them
drink of the river of thy pleasures.
D. You are not representing God by being bland,
conservative, colorless, modest, or stingy
1.
God is not drab; If God was the
way a lot of people thought there would only be three colors of fish light
gray, dark gray and medium gray; God our Father sits on the throne in Heaven
and there isn’t any shortages and He doesn’t scrimp. He’s not afraid that He’s going to be
excessive. He makes streets of
gold, His gates of pearls, big honking jewels on the walls.
2.
Who made the gold, the diamonds,
and the rubies? God did and that stuff is not for the devil’s people; Who is
the best for?-The Earth and everything good thing in
it was created for God’s family; The good stuff is for God’s people to enjoy
not the heathen
a. Genesis1:28-All of the vast
resources of the Earth are for of the people of God to serve God and man
b. That car is serving me, these closes are serving me and b/c
of who I work for I should have the best
c. Isaiah 1:19-The good of the land is for the willing and
obedient
3.
Wealth is not for the world
a. Job 27:16-The wicked may be working for it, but I’ll wear
it; It’s not for them, it’s for us
b. Ecclesiastes 2:26-The good stuff is for those who are
good before God
c. Isaiah 61:6-Riches aren’t for the world
E. Our current condition is a direct reflection of God and
it is saying something to the world around us about God’s ability and desire to
care for us
1.
We are not to be bland, dull
gray, colorless, lifeless, sparkle-less, Christians; People have thought that
if we stay beat down enough that and broke enough that would somehow glorify
God.
2.
The condition of the flock is a reflection of the
shepherd
3.
Being beat down doesn’t glorify
God, excess fruit bearing glorifies God-John 15:8
4.
We should be impressive; not
trying to show off, not trying to impress, you just are impressive
F. God is excessive; that’s his nature
1.
Can you see God pouring and you
say okay God is going to spill and he says I know, I know and he just keeps
going and it’s running everywhere and He just keeps pouring it out?
2.
To God it’s not enough until it’s
running over, a lot; Full is not enough for God
a. It makes God happy when it’s excessive because that’s
what God likes
3.
Are we expecting excessive? Are we believing for excessive?
4.
Some of the poorest nations are
the richest in natural resources, but they don’t know how to appropriate it;
that’s the body of Christ
G. Philippians 4:1-He’s not talking about being afraid that you’re
going to get into excess; that’s not even the context; He’s talking about
having a gentle spirit, being kind, sweet, and reasonable
1.
1-5-God
is wanting them to get a long and be in unity
2.
NIV-Let
your gentleness be known to all men; ASV-Let your forbearance be known to all
men
IV. Three Levels of
living (1 Corinthians 10:11-Things that happened to them were an example for
us)
A. 1) Not Enough-In Egypt they had not enough. They didn’t own anything. They didn’t own themselves, the shacks
they lived in, the clothes they wore, they were slaves
1.
It’s not God’s will that you work
your whole life and have nothing
B. 2) Just enough-They had
manna for each day. If they didn’t
have too little and they didn’t have more than enough, they had just enough. They couldn’t see where it was coming
from tomorrow and they couldn’t save up from today. You’re making it and paying your bills
barely. You’ve got enough, but you
don’t have anything left over either.
1.
Most
of the church is living a wilderness level life and the problem is they think
they’re in Canaan land
2.
There
are many people who call this blessed and they are, but that’s not God’s
perfect will for them.
C. 3) More than enough
1.
Numbers
14:7-And they spake
unto all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The
land, which we passed through to search it, is an exceeding good land. --- The promise land was excessive land
2.
Deuteronomy
8:6-13, 6:10,11
D. How to get the land of
excess, to more than enough?
1.
You
have to pass tests---In order to get to the too much we have to pass tests
a. God gave them the manna
test and others and they flunked again and again
b. God did not intend for
them to stay in the wilderness (just enough) for decades, but they failed tests
c. He could have led them an
easier way, but He intended for them to learn faith lessons and to pass faith
tests to be qualified for the blessings he had arranged for them, but they
failed those lessons
d. In the KOG promotion
doesn’t come without faithfulness; you can gripe and complain all you want, but
maybe you should have been in the promise land 10 years ago, but you haven’t
passed tests
e. They kept failing tests
and never got into the land of excess
f.
Myriads
of Christians stay on the plain of just enough b/c when God says do this, they
say they can’t
g. If you are not willing to
pass the test in the land of just enough you won’t get into the land of excess
h. Joshua 14:10-Joshua and
Caleb pass the tests
2.
You
have to take your excess (by faith)
a. Joshua 17:14-18-They’re
trying to put pressure on Joshua and he’s said take what you want
b. Joshua 18:2-3-Joshuah
said what are you waiting for; go take what is rightfully yours
c. Joshua 19:9-The tribe of
Judah did what Joshua said and they took too much and blessed others
1)
Are
we taking as much as we should be taking? Not until you have too much
3.
You got to get poverty out of you
and excess prosperity in you
V.
How much is too much? That is the wrong question. How did you get it? What relationship do
you have with it? God does not care what you have or how much you have, but He
does care how you got it and the relationship you have with it
A. God never corrected one
person anywhere in the scripture for having too much; he corrected people for
how they got the stuff and the relationship they had with the stuff, but never
the amount of stuff they had
1.
Luke 12:15-Your life does not
consist in the abundance of things that you have, but that doesn’t mean that
God doesn’t want you to have things
B. You don’t have to decide between Jesus and material
wealth and you’ve never had to
1.
You can’t serve money and serve
God; it did not say you can’t have money and serve God and it didn’t say that
you can’t have a lot of money and serve God-Matthew 6:24
C. If it got added to you because you sowed, believed God
for it and sought first the kingdom of God and have the right relationship with
it, then God’s good with
