So Long Worry
Foundation Statement: This statement sums up
Babylon; Man taking care of it without God. In Matthew 6, Jesus teaches to come off
of Babylon and come onto the Kingdom
I.
You
don’t need to get free from worry, you need to get out of Babylon and get on
the Kingdom; You need to get out of that system where you are the
caretaker and where you try to accomplish things with self-effort and get into
this system where you are the caster of the care and God is the caretaker
A. Worry is just the result
of living in Babylon where you have to meet your own needs
1.
Man
was never intended to be able to meet his own needs without God and every man
on the Earth deep in his heart knows that
a. Genesis 3-Any time a man
tries to meet his own needs without God he will ultimately fail to do so
2.
In Babylon you got to
meet your own needs so of course you worry because you know you can’t
a. Worry is the result of
being responsible for taking care of something that you’re not qualified to
take care of-That’s Babylon because Babylon makes you responsible for taking
care of it, but you’re not qualified to take care of it and that’s why you
worry
b. You know yourself well enough to know that you
can’t take care of anything; And if you don’t that Jesus is getting ready to
tell you in verse 27
3.
Judges
6-Gideon is worrying because he thinks he’s got to do it and take care of it
B. Worry is evidence that
you have taken the care, engaged Babylon, and you’re trying to meet your own
needs (relying on yourself, looking to yourself)
1.
When
you are worrying the issue is not the worry, but rather the worry is a by-product
of something else; it’s a by-product of the system that you are hooked to
2.
Worry is the result of
taking the care and in Babylon you are the caretaker and therefore worry is
just the by-product of living in Babylon
C. If you want to get free
from worry you’re going to have to get out of Babylon (you got to get out of
that system where you are responsible for taking care of stuff
1.
The problem people have
is they try to get free from worry in Babylon
a. You can’t get free from worry without getting out
of the system where you are the caretaker
b. In Babylon I’m the caretaker, that yields worry;
In the Kingdom I’m not the caretaker, that yields rest
2.
People
are “trying not to worry” in Babylon and you can try not to worry all you want
in Babylon but you won’t succeed; The only way to get free from worry is to get
out of Babylon
a. We’ve tried to teach
people not to worry, but we don’t teach them how to come out of Babylon
b. I can tell you not to
worry 1,000 times and if you stay in Babylon you will worry
c. People who plug into this
series are going to get free worry and walk in whole new level of rest
D. The problem is not the
worry, the problem is your processes in a time of need because of the system
your hooked to
1.
The
process in Babylon when you’re in need is that it’s on you to take care of it
and that produces worry because deep down in your spirit you know you weren’t
created to be able to meet your needs without God; you recognize your
responsibility to do something that you know you’re not qualified to do
2.
You’re
worrying about stuff because you’re in the wrong system
3.
If
you would just come out of Babylon and get in the Kingdom you wouldn’t have to
try to get rid of worry because in the Kingdom there is no worry
E. Leaving Babylon; There
has to be an exodus out of Babylon and into the Kingdom
1.
Exodus
1:9-15-Babylon will have you working on hard sweating and getting no closer to
the plan of God or the will of God for your life
2.
The
way Moses came to get God’s people out of Egypt is the way Jesus came to get
you out of Babylon and that’s what he is preaching in Matthew 6 (Jesus came
preaching the Kingdom)
a. Moses preached the
promise land, Jesus preached the Kingdom
b. Many of them didn’t want
to leave Egypt, Many of them wanted to go back to Egypt
c. It doesn’t require any
faith to live in Egypt because flesh is your arm and your trust is in man and
that is comfortable for your flesh
d. The Kingdom requires
faith-The eye of the needle
II.
In the Kingdom you don’t
have to worry about the need being taken care of because that’s not your
responsibility (Taking care of stuff is not your job or department)
A. In the Kingdom it is not
your part to TAKE CARE of anything
1.
Under
no circumstance should you ever try to take care of anything b/c that’s not
your department
a. The Kingdom is a good place to be because over
here I don’t have to take care of this; in Babylon that was my job, but in the
Kingdom it’s not my job (We need a mind renewal)
b. EX: It’d be like your
first day at a new job. Somebody
telling you that your job is to serve the customers who come in. Then they told you answering the phone
is not your job. Under no
circumstance do you answer that phone.
That’s not your department, that’s not your job,
your job is to serve the customers.
If you have no customers and the phone is ringing 100 times, do not pick
up the phone.
2.
Why
would I be worried about that being taken care of, that’s not even my
department? If you don’t have to
take care of it, what you are worried about it for
a. EX: If you work in the
shoe department you’re not worried about electronics being taken care of
b. EX: You’ve never worried
about paying someone else’s bills because it’s not your responsibility to you
take care of it and therefore you don’t worry about it; Then why would you
worry about paying your own bills? You don’t have to take care of it.
B. John 6:28-In the Kingdom
your job is to believe on Jesus
1.
They’re
asking what their part is in God’s will being done on the Earth
a. 28-MSG-Well what do we do then to get in on God’s works?
b. 28-ERV-What does God want us to do?
c. 28-PHILLIPS-What must we do to carry out the work of God?
d. Many don’t believe we have a part; cause to them
God’s going to do what he wants anyway
1)
Do
you have a part in God working in your life?
2.
Our
part is to believe ON him
(Amplified Bible-Rely on Him)
a. Believe on him
1)
To
have a faith directed unto; To have faith directed towards
2)
Believing
or in faith to give ones’ self up to Jesus
3)
To
put confidence in one, to trust one; To entrust a thing to one
4)
Believe
on ones words
b. The meaning here is
direct your faith toward Jesus, commit the care of your life into his hands,
entrust him with it; Don’t direct your faith towards someone else and look to
someone else to care for you; RELY ON HIM and not other people or things; Make
him your only source
3.
What does God ask of a
believer?
a. Are there people who are saved, who aren’t
relying on him, not doing what God asks of them?
b. Many believers in many
areas have chose to rely on someone or something other than Jesus
1)
Is
that doing what God asks of us?
2)
Every
believer is relying on him for eternal salvation and they have received it; Some
rely on him for healing and they receive it; Some rely on him as their
financier and they receive it; Some rely on him for sleep at night, a good
marriage, a car, a house and they receive
c. The area where you don’t rely on him is the area
where you don’t receive from him
d. God wants you to be
totally dependent on him for everything
1)
He
doesn’t want you relying on anybody else for anything
2)
I
will be their God-I’ll take care of them (2 Corinthians 6:16, Hebrews 8:10)
C. What was Jesus’ part in
the works of God?-John 14:10
1.
He
said the Father does the works, so we know that Jesus’ part was not to do the
works
2.
Jesus
is relying on the Father, NOT on himself (John 5:19,30,43)
a. He’s not trying to take
care of things himself, he’s relying on God to take care of things
3.
Jesus’ part of working
the works of God was to believe on the One who sent him, to rely on God for the
Words to say the actions to take and then rely on the Father to do the works
D. What’s your job in the
Kingdom? Same as Jesus’ when he walked the Earth
1.
A big part of “believing
on him” is inquiring of him and doing what he tells you do to
a. Jesus spoke to the storm and somebody said that’s
great faith; yes, but before we saw him speak he inquired of the Lord about
what to say; he’s not only relying on the Lord to do the work, he’s relying on
the Lord to give him the words to and the orders of what to say and do
2.
I’m going to God for
words, for orders, and I’m relying on him to take care of it-(John
14:21)
a. You’ve been going to God
for Him to do something, when you should be going to him for words and orders
(He already wants to do something about your situation)
3.
As
believers we must stop looking to other things as our source-James 4:1-4
a. 1-They had desires and
they killed, they fought, the warred and they couldn’t obtain; That’s Babylon
1)
Because
anytime man tries to meet his own needs without God ultimately he will fail
b. They didn’t inquire of the Lord but rather they relied on the
world’s system
1)
Many
people are warring in the world’s system and don’t even go to God
c. He wrote this to
believers telling them that they cheated on God because they ran out to the
world to get their needs met; You can’t run with the rabbits and hunt with the
hounds
1)
Hosea
married a prostitute to show Israel they were running out on God looking to the
world
d. 5-God’s a jealous God and
he wants you coming to him, not somewhere else
e. 6-God gives more
grace---That’s means he’s ready to meet your needs
1)
Prides
says I can figure it out, I can meet my own needs without God – God
resists that man
2)
Humility
says I got to inquire of the Lord because I can’t do anything of myself –
That man gets grace
E. In the Kingdom I’m not
responsible to take care of it, but that doesn’t men I don’t have
responsibilities
1.
I
have responsibility in the kingdom and if I don’t fulfill my responsibility it
will not be taken care of so don’t get the idea that this is just whatever God
wants to do, He’ll do and I do nothing.
2.
You
don’t have the responsibility doing the works, but you do have
responsibility-John 14:21
3.
You are responsible for
believing, inquiring, and obeying and under no circumstance should you ever try
to take care of anything because that’s not your department
III.
When
man takes the care or tries to TAKE CARE of it, he can’t add one thing
to himself-Matthew6:28,Genesis 3:7
A. 26-YOUR heavenly Father
feeds them
1.
Are they meeting their
own needs? NO
2.
Are
you not much better than they? (If a kid sees his dad feeding the dog, then he
shouldn’t worry about rather or not he’s going to eat)
B. 27-You don’t add good
things to your life, by taking the care and trying to meet your own needs; you
can’t add anything to yourself through self-effort (That’s Babylon-See Genesis
3,11)
1.
Jesus
said he couldn’t add one thing to himself by trying to take of it himself (John
5:19,30)
a. John 15:5-Then Jesus told
you that you couldn’t do it either
2.
When
you try to TAKE CARE of it (and meet your own needs) just know you can’t and
you won’t
a. GNV-Which of you by taking care can add one cubit to his
stature]
b. EXPANDED BIBLE-You
cannot [L Who of you can…?] add ·any time [or one step; L one
cubit; C about eighteen inches] to your
·life [or height; C the
Greek probably refers to time instead of stature] by worrying about it.
C. 28-30-This is Jesus
revealing to us that growth (profit, increase, victory) doesn’t come by our
effort (but in verse 33 he also reveals that it doesn’t come by doing nothing)
1.
Think
about how they grow --- That’s a command
a. The lilies are growing,
but it’s not because of their effort (Jesus is getting you off your effort)
2.
Many
people engage spiritual principles with this toiling mindset
a. Self-effort is the enemy of faith and it repels
grace-Jeremiah 17:5-8
b. In Babylon it’s all about your effort; in the
Kingdom it’s all about your faith
c. Jesus is talking about faith all throughout this
chapter, NOT SELF EFFORT and you get stuff added to you and your needs met by
faith, NOT BY SELF-EFFORT
D. 30-Trying to TAKE CARE of it yourself and
trying to figure it out yourself reveals that you have little faith
1.
28,30-Christians who live
in Babylon have little faith
a. If you “take thought”
(trying to take care of it, trying to meet your own needs) you have little
faith
2.
31-Because
God is a trustworthy provider who will take care of you, don’t try to take care
of yourself
a. Trust God as your source-If
you’re taking care you’re trusting yourself and you’re not trusting God
3.
30-31-If
he took care of the grass and took care of the birds wouldn’t he much more take
care of you? The unspoken answer is yes and the response to that “yes” is verse
31 which is Jesus saying, then stop trying to take care of yourself
E. 31-This is how the person
living in Babylon talks-“What are we
doing to do?” Is Babylon’s question
1.
This
is man trying to meet his own needs (What are WE going to eat, What are WE
going to drink, What are WE going to wear); We got to figure something out
a. In Babylon you come up
with the plan of how you can meet you own needs
2.
While he’s sitting there
asking those questions what is he not doing?
a. When he’s asking these questions
he is not inquiring of the Lord (seeking the Kingdom of God and his
righteousness); While he’s sitting there asking those questions, he’s not doing
the thing he needs to do get those needs met
3.
32-That’s
Babylon-Man trying to meet his own needs without God
a. The man in Babylon seeks
the things because he’s got to take care of himself
b. God knows that you have need of these things
– THAT MEANS HE’S GOT A PLAN
1)
His
plan is not for you to sit there and take the care and try to figure it out on
your own and sweat and toil and labor to meet your own needs
4.
Verse
33 is saying instead doing verse 31 like the Babylon does (verse 32)
a. Rather than taking the care and trying to come up
with plan of how you can meet your own needs do verse 33; there’s an
alternative choice
F. What does Jesus say to do
in regards to your needs? Inquire
1.
Seek
first the Kingdom-Rule,
dominion --- What’s your plan?
a. You are the king of my
life, I am under your rule and dominion; If you’re in His kingdom then you need
to seek the King about what he wants for you because you/your life is in his
kingdom; He is the King so he has the say about what goes on His Kingdom
b. The rule of God, the
dominion of God-God what do you have to say about this; What
do you want where this is concerned? Do you want this that way?
2.
Seek
His Righteous-Rightness,
acting right (His way of doing and being right) --- What’s my part?
a. What’s the right thing to
do and say in this situation
b. Seek God, inquire of Him,
what is right to do, what is right to say and then do what the Father shows you
to do and say what the Father tells you to say and let the Father do the work
1)
This
is how you get all those things added to you
c. EX: If sickness attacks
your body and you’re in his kingdom then you got to see what the king wants to
do about this and what his plan his.
He’ll say I don’t want that in my kingdom. And then you say okay what do you want
me to do and say about it? And He’ll tell you what to do and say about it and
when you do it he’ll back you!
3.
In the Kingdom of God
wisdom is the principle thing so inquiring of the Lord is the first thing we do
a. Wisdom is the principle issue in any situation
and inquiring of the Lord is the first step of faith
4.
You
don’t have to worry about tomorrow because God will TAKE CARE of you then to and the same process that worked
today you engage tomorrow
