Ruling Words
Foundation Statement: With a strong spirit
that’s fed on the Word you can tell your mind what to think and your body what
to do. A strong spirit will lead to
a renewed soul and renewed soul will lead to a dominated body.
I.
We need to feed our
spirit and develop it to the place where it is strong and able to dominate the
soul and body
A. 1 Peter 5:8-Be
self-controlled in your mind because where your mind goes you’re body will go
and there’s a devil out there
1.
You
take control over your mind with a strong speaking spirit
B. Your body and soul are
dominated through a strong spirit
1.
A
weak spirit won’t be able to control the mind and if the mind is not controlled
neither will the body be
II. With your mouth you can control the soul and body-James
3:6-The Whole Body
A. Psalm 103:1-2 –
David spoke to His soul
1.
Soul
– Seat of the appetites, seat of emotions and passions, activity of mind,
activity of the will, activity of the character
2.
If
he’s having to tell his soul to bless the Word that must mean that his soul
isn’t wanting to bless the Lord
3.
If
he’s having to tell his soul to not forget all the benefits of God in his life
that must mean his soul is wanting to stray and thinking about all the things
going wrong
a. His spirit is literally
telling his soul to remember all the good things the Word says
4.
We
know David’s spirit was full of the Word and strong he fellowshipped with God
hours and hours at a time
B. Your will won’t go a way
your mind’s not going, your mind won’t go a way your mouth is not going and
your mouth won’t go a way your spirit’s not going
III. If you can control your tongue you can control your whole
body (James 3:2)
A. If you can control your
tongue then you can restrain and hold your body in check
1.
The
whole course of life is set by your mouth (James 3:6)
2.
Wherever
the bit goes the horse goes, wherever the rudder goes the ship goes and
wherever your tongue goes your life goes
3.
Whoever
controls the bit controls the horse; whoever controls the rudder controls the
ship; whoever controls your tongue controls your life
B. The strength of your
spirit determines the control of your mouth
1.
Your
spirit is connected to your mouth in that what you say with your mouth is
directly connected to the nourishment and strength of your spirit (2
Corinthians 4:13, Matthew 12:34)
a. If your spirit is strong
and nourished up on the words of faith, then it will control your mouth and
those words will come out of your mouth
b. If your spirit is weak
fed on evil words then your mouth will be controlled by your unrenewed mind and poorly trained body and those words will
come out of your mouth
2.
The
potential to control your mouth, your mind, and in turn your body can be
measured by the amount of word that is fed to your spirit
a. With little word fed into
your spirit your potential to control your mouth, mind, and body is little
because your spirit is weak
C. You can measure the
maturity and character of a person by measuring what they say out their mouth
1.
If
you can’t say the right thing, you won’t think the right thing, and you won’t
do the right thing
2.
If
you can bridle the tongue, then you can bridle the body; to bridle the tongue
and in turn the mind and in turn the body you have to be strong and nourished
up in spirit
IV. Proverbs 18:14 – A strong spirit will sustain a man in
trouble
A. A strong spirit can
support the weakness of the soul and body
B. If your spirit is weak
there’s no hope for you
