You Have Authority
FOUNDATION STATEMENT: People are only afraid
of that which they believe the are inferior to/don’t have power over; people
are not afraid of that which they believe they are superior to and have power
over
I.
Fear and inferiority/no
authority
A. Satan likes to create the
illusion that u have no authority/say where ur life
is concerned
1.
That
way of thinking will produce fear
a.
With
no authority/no power/no say over anything there’s a lot you’re inferior to and
therefore there’s a lot to fear
2.
Satan
says, “Some things just happen” insinuating you have no say over your life
a.
God
says “What you sow you will reap” - Things don’t just happen
b.
The
sower has the authority/control/say over what he harvests
3.
Life
is not a series of “random events” or “things just happening,” but it’s the result
of the seeds you chose to sow
B. You created to have
authority, control, and say (Psalm 8:6, Romans 5:17)
1.
You
don’t just got to do whatever you want, you only have the authority and power
to carry out what God wants or His will
2.
Anything
that tries to stop that will from coming to pass you have power and authority
over
C. Your authority lies is in
the choices you make (Deuteronomy 30:19)
1.
Could
you chose to live by faith, be a doer of the Word, be led of the spirit of God
and be guaranteed a blessed, long,
strong, victorious life?
2.
Could
you chose to ignore God, not give Him time, not grow in his word and have some
things happen to you that aren’t pleasant?
D. Fear-A strong dose of respect for something that is
life-threatening or dangerous
1.
If
you respect the power of a thing more than you respect the power of God you’ll
operate in fear
II.
Jesus delivered you from
fear and he did it by giving you authority/say over your life
A. In the beginning God gave
Adam dominion over the whole Earth (Genesis 1:28)
1.
Adam
didn’t have to fear anything in the Earth because he had authority over it and
power over it
2.
When
Adam sinned he forfeited that power into the hands Satan (Luke 4:5-7 (AMP)
a.
Fear
ran ramped in the Earth because there was a devil running loose looking to
steal, kill, and destroy that mankind didn’t have authority over him
3.
If
a man would come into covenant w/ God and do what He said, he’d open to the
door for God to come into his life and do things with His power that was
greater than the power of the devil; but man himself didn’t have authority over
the devil
a.
God
never lost authority over the devil, man lost it
b.
That’s
different than the NT because now we authority over the devil
4.
1
John 3:8-The power that Adam lost, Jesus came to get it back into the hands of
believers
B. Hebrews 2:14-15-Jesus
Destroyed Satan
1.
Destroy-To
deprive (take from) of force, influence, and power; put and end to; to render
in operative, do away with, to cause a one to have no efficiency
2.
In
depriving Satan of power, he delivered you from fear because you don’t have to
fear something/someone that has no authority or power over you
a.
“And”
is a conjunction that means it connects one thought to another
b.
There’s
a connection between Jesus taking Satan’s power and you not having to fear
anymore
C. Colossians 2:15-Jesus
stripped Satan and made a show of him openly
1.
Spoiled-Stripping the enemy of
his weaponry and leaving him without any weapons with which to respond; stripping one to the point of complete nakedness.
2.
Show-To expose something; once the war was over the winner would return
home displaying the treasures, trophies, weaponry, and captives that he had
seized; this was a humiliating experience for the enemy
3.
Openly-He boldly, confidently,
loudly, blatantly, and publicly exposed and displayed the defeated foe;
4.
Triumphing-The general who was
returning home from a grand victory in the enemy’s territory. A glorious triumphal parade. The returning victor would lead the
parade in on a white stallion and behind him bound in chains would be the
defeated king/foe. In other words he would make a show of them openly.
III.
You have authority now
A. Your authority
1.
Matthew
28:18-All authority-There’s none left for the devil to have
2.
Philippians
2:9-11-You have authority that’s above every authority
a.
All
names/authorities must bow to this
authority
3.
Luke
10:17-19-Jesus said I give you authority over the power of devil
4.
John
16:33 (AMP)-You can be of good cheer/fear not because I have deprived the world
of power to harm you
B. What kind of authority
and power do you have?
1.
Mark
4:40-Could you speak to a storm of hurricane proportions?
2.
Matthew
14-Could you speak to lack?
3.
John
11-Could you speak to a dead man?
4.
Mark
11:23-Could you speak to a mountain?
5.
You
don’t have to fear cancer because you don’t have to die of cancer; you don’t
have to fear tragedy because you don’t have to die in tragedy; you don’t fear
lack because you don’t have to live in lack; you have a say and authority
6.
In
the word of God is the power and authority of God to carry out that word
C. Your words will transmit
the anointing to your problem
1.
Mark
4:40-The anointing that stopped the storm was released through words
2.
The
power working in and through the words is the anointing and faith activates it
a.
People
speak words that are void of faith and that’s why they see no impact
b.
When
you get full of faith and speak the anointing is in those words and will move
the mountain
3.
Psalm
91-When fear tries to rise up and Satan’s saying it’s going to happen to you,
it’s going to happen to you, could you roar back a thousand may fall at my side
and ten thousand at my right hand, but it will not come near me and would there
be power in those words to keep it from happening to you?
IV.
Fear not only comes from
believing you’re inferior, but fear will actually make you inferior to things
you’re superior to
A. Matthew 14:24-Peter was
not inferior, but fear made him inferior
B. 2 Timothy 1:7-The spirit
of fear is a powerless spirit
1.
When
you operate in fear you become inferior and powerless against the onslaught of
the devil
C. Ephesians 1:19,2:6-Even
though you far above all oppression when you begin to operate in fear, fear
works like an elevator in that it takes you down to the place where you’re
inferior to the enemy and oppressed/overpowered by him
