Fear & Safety

FOUNDATION STATEMENT: A person who is uncertain about their safety will walk in fear.  However, those who are certain that they are safe will live a fearless life.

 

I.      There’s a connection between believing you’re safe and being free from fear

A.    Ezekiel 39:26-When you believe you’re safe, nothing will make you afraid

1.      People who are afraid don’t believe they’re safe

2.      Safely-Safety, safe, carelessly, careless, secure, securely, security, assurance, confidence, boldly, surely; To trust, to have confidence, be confident, to be bold, to be secure, to feel safe, be careless

B.     Safety and certainty go together

1.      People who believe they are safe and secure are certain of the thing that’s keeping them and consequently have no fear

2.      EX: You take a kid who’s afraid at night and then gets up in the bed between mom and dad and goes right to sleep; he believes he’s safe and secure because he’s certain of the ones keeping them

a.      If he was uncertain about his mom and dad he wouldn’t believe he’s safe

3.      If a person gets uncertain about the thing keeping them, they won’t believe they’re safe, and fear will be there

II.     People who believe they’re safe, trust in certainty of God’s Word

A.    This word is my shield

1.      Psalm 91:4-His word is your shield

2.      Deuteronomy 28-If you do what he says you’ll be shielded from all this stuff

3.      John 1:1,Psalm 115:9-11-God is the Word and He/the Word is your shield

a.      God is the Word and if you get outside of the Word you get outside of Him, you’re not shielded and you’re not safe

4.      When we do what the word says we are shielded from the enemy (Daniel 3)

a.      God told them not to serve any other gods, they didn’t and they were shielded

b.      God’s whole message to the COI was do what I see and you’ll be shielded

B.     If you have confidence in your shield, you will not fear what’s on the other side

1.      When you are certain about the Word of God and you trust the certainty of God’s Word you’ll believe you are safe & if you believe you’re safe there’s nothing to fear

a.      I’m certain about my shield; that’s why the enemy can be barking and screaming and hollering on the other side of the shield, but on this side I have peace that passes all understanding because I’m certain about my shield and b/c I’m certain about it, I believe I’m safe and because I believe I’m safe I have nothing to fear (EX: That dog on the other side of the fence)

2.      Not only do I believe I’m shielded, but I’m certain about shield

3.      If you’re uncertain about your shield, you will fear what’s on the other side

a.      People who are afraid don’t believe they’re safe; they don’t believe they’re safe b/c they don’t believe they’re shielded

C.    You can be certain about God and His Word  (Psalm 18:30)

1.      Psalm 19:7-The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure

2.      Psalm 89:33-34-Nevertheless my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to fail. My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.

3.      Psalm 93:5-Thy testimonies are very sure

4.      Proverbs 22:20-21-Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge,That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth

III.   What you believe you’re shielded from you will not fear

A.    Jesus believed he was shielded

1.      John 10:17-18- 17-Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. 18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

a.      He’s saying that his life is shielded and until he takes the shield down he’s not going anywhere

2.      Mt 26:53-Do you think I can’t call on my Father, & he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels?

a.      He’s saying I could be shielded if I wanted to

3.      John 19:11-Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above:

a.      He’s saying you couldn’t do this if I hadn’t taken the shield down

B.     Jesus must have believed he was shielded, he must have been certain about that shield, he must have believed he was safe and that’s why he’s fearless (Matt 8:2, John 8:56)

1.      John 10:39, 11:7-10-He went back into to a town of people that wanted to kill him

IV.   When ur certain about the Word, you’ll be certain that ur safe, & you’ll be fearless (Psal 91)

A.    1-1 John 2:5-But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.

1.      To abide in him you do his Word

B.     3-Surely-He’s certain isn’t he? So I know He’ll also be fearless

C.    4-You be certain that nobody and nothing can penetrate your shield

D.    4-Fear and insecurity/not believing your safe go together

E.     5-He’s not afraid because he is certain that he’s safe

1.      If you certain your safe, then you have nothing to fear

2.      He sees all of this evil around him, but he’s not afraid because he believe he’s safe

a.      There’s going to be evil in the world, but you don’t have to fear it; if you’ll do what the word says you can be certain that you’re safe and fear nothing

F.     7-It will not come near me-He’s certain about He’s shield

G.   9-You make God your refuge by staying inside the shield of His Word

H.    10-There (in the shield) no evil and no plague will come near you

I.      11-He will-Certainty

J.     Psalm 23:6-He’s not afraid because he’s certain that he’s safe

V.    The enemy wants u feeling uncertain and unsafe because it’s gives place to fear (Is 36:15)

A.    The enemy would love to get you to believe you’re not safe & that you can’t be certain because if he can, then you’ll operate in fear

1.      He would love to use and experience to get you to believe that even if you do the Word you’re not safe

B.     If you’ll do the Word, you can be safe in the middle of evil, and have nothing to fear

1.      Genesis 26:1-There was famine, but Isaac was safe

2.      Jeremiah 17:7-There was draught and heat, but he who trust in the Lord is safe

3.      Exodus-There were plagues, but God’s people were safe; they didn’t have to fear those plagues

C.    Proverbs 3:25-26-Believe you’re safe; Don’t fear sudden destruction

1.      Isaiah 32:17-The effect of right-standing with God is assurance
