Do You Love The Word?

Foundation Statement: A sincere and genuine love for the Word of God a foundation element to living a victorious life – Psalm 119:92

 

I.      God is the word; You can’t separate God from His Word; This Word is a much a manifestation of God as Jesus was when he was here in the flesh (Jn 1:1-5,14)

A.    The relationship you have with the Word is the one you have with God

1.      To love the Word is to love God who is the word

2.      To know the Word intimately is to know God intimately

3.      To reverence, respect, and honor the Word is to do the same to God

4.      To value the Word is to value God

B.     When you spend time with the Word, you’re spending time with God

1.      You can’t have God apart from His Word

II.     Believers’ lives don’t begin 2 change significantly until they fall in love w/ the Word of God

A.    A person can be saved, but until that person falls in love with the Word they’ll not see significant change in their life

1.      Anything God does in your life will be done as a result of u hearing & doing the Word

2.      John 8:31-Disciples are ones who continue in the Word & the Word makes them free

a.      Continue-Stay in a given place; the Word shouldn’t be just something you think about in your devotional time and that’s it

B.     The Word is the beginning of all transformation (Romans 12:2)

1.      It’s the Word that begins to change your belief and renew your mind and until the inside changes the outside won’t change

2.      Pr 23:7-Change takes place from the inside out (Pr 4:23,Mt 12:33,15:16-20)

III.   The Believers Love the Word (Psalm 119:113,119,140,159)

A.    Psalm 119:47-48-When you love the Word you have an appetite or desire for it

1.      48-When we worship Him we’re worshipping His Word for He is the Word & that’s why you can’t truly worship Him with a song that doesn’t line up with His Word (Ps 119:54)

2.      Psalm 119:20-I yearn desperately for Your Word; My soul breaks out for the fervent desire for your Word; My soul wastes away in pining desire for your Word; My soul is overcome with an insistent longing for your Word

3.      Psalm 119:40,131-Pant-To thirst, long for, earnestly desire

4.      Psalm 119:45-Seek-Seek with care, require, investigate, demand, study, follow, seek with application

5.      What you do not give your attention to you will not desire (James 1:14-15)

B.     Psalm 119:97-When you love the Word Love you invest time and energy into

1.      Where your heart is, where your mind is, where your time is, where you money is, where your energy is that’s where your love is

a.      Psalm 119:34-He invest all that He has into this word

2.      Meditate the Word-Psalm 119:15,23,48, 78,99,148-Meditate-To put forth thoughts, commune, speak, ponder, sing, to, study, to talk, sing, consider,

a.      Psalm 119:30-He set the Word before him and spent time with it

b.      Psalm 119:173-You got to choose the word

C.    When you love the Word you delight in the Word (Psalm 119:35,47,70,77,111)

1.      Psalm 119:14,16,24,143-Delight-Take great pleasure, be greatly pleased, great satisfaction, rejoiced to display joy

2.      Psalm 119:103-Pleasant-Delightful, Delicious

3.      Psalm 119:171-Praise-Song of praise, adoration, thanksgiving, public praise

4.      People who don’t delight in the Word don’t believe (Romans 15:13)

D.    When you love the Word you’re committed to the Word

1.      Psalm 119:31-He stuck with, cleaved to, and pursued the word closely

2.      Psalm 119:51,157-He was under pressure, but he didn’t turn from the Word

3.      Psalm 119:83,141-He was under pressure, but didn’t ignore and cease to care about the Word

E.     When you love the Word you Reverence/Value the Word

1.      Psalm 119:161-162-Awe-Reverence, respect, honor, value

a.      Psalm 119:129-Wonderful-Extraordinary, marvelous

2.      Psalm 119:15,117-He values the Word enough to pay attention to it and regard it (disregard)

3.      Ps 119:16,61,109,153,176-He will not cease to care about or ignore it

4.      Psalm 119:127-When you love the Word properly value it above all else; it has priority in your life; Matthew 6:24

a.      Psalm 119:72-He values the word above riches, gold, and silver

F.     Love for the Word and Victory

1.      Psalm 119:5-7-He respected the Word and it kept him from being defeated

2.      Psalm 119:87-He would’ve been defeated, if he neglected the Word

3.      Psalm 119:92-He would’ve been defeated if he hadn’t delighted in the word

4.      Psalm 119:163-167-Loving the Word brings peace and never failing

IV.   It’s a love for the word that is a foundational principle to living a successful & victorious life

A.    Psalm 1:1-3-He delights, desires, takes pleasure in and values the Word

1.      Whatever this guy does prospers

B.     Joshua 1:8-Joshua has been called to lead the Children of Israel into the promise land and task that his great mentor Moses did not accomplish

1.      God’s counsel to him is to meditate the Word day and night and then he would make his way prosperous and then he’d have good success

C.    Why must you have the word to succeed?

1.      No Word = No faith = No victory (1 John 5:4, Romans 10:12-17)

D.    If you don’t have time for the Word you don’t have time to win

1.      Luke 10:38-Mary chose the Word  

2.      Luke 14:16-33-They were too buy for the Word

E.     Despise the Word and you get destruction (Proverbs 13:13)

1.      Despise-Hold has insignificant, disrespect, not value it properly

2.      Rewarded-Nothing missing and nothing broken, complete

F.     What people don’t know from the word is cutting them off (Hosea 4:6)

1.      It’s your lack of knowledge of God’s word that’s cutting you off from all that God has for you

2.      They rejected knowledge
