Why Are You Talking? - Part 2

Foundation Statement: In the Word of God there are reasons for talking and if you’re not talking for the right reasons, then you’re going be saying the wrong things

 

I.      When God speaks His purpose is to send words to accomplish something

A.    Is 55:11-God speaks 2 send His Word 2 accomplish what is profitable/increase good

1.     8-9-God’s ways and thoughts concerning talking are higher than ours

2.     10-There’s a purpose for the rain and snow; it’s doesn’t just rain to be raining

a.      It’s been sent to do something

3.     God’s words have a common denominator; they lead to profit/increase good

4.     Everything God does, there is purpose behind it; We should be like him

a.      If the purpose for a thing is unknown, abuse & destruction are inevitable

b.      People abuse talking, because they don’t know the purpose for it

B.     Every word you speak does something-It is helping you or hurting you

II.     The purpose for words-Why we talk

A.    Matthew 12:36-We speak to yield profit, to increase good

1.     Your words should lead to the increase of good, ONLY, in yours & others lives

B.     James 3:10-We speak to bless-Causes increase, multiplication, to become greater

1.     Blessing is to speak good things over people that impart power into their lives for those things to come to pass 

C.    Ephesians 4:29-We speak to build up and minister grace

1.     Your words are to build people up and promote prosperity in their lives

2.     Your words should minister grace-When u finish talking the hearers should be built up, full of joy, pleasure, & delight; strengthened, increased in faith, & stirred to go do of the Word

a.      Watch what you go around telling people; your words shouldn’t burden people; What is telling them that going to do?

3.     What should our conseling sessions look like?

4.     The Holy Spirit is one of those hearers

D.    2 Corinthians 4:13-We speak to reveal and release faith in God and in his Word

1.     What does what you just said say about what you believe?

E.     James 3:3-4-We speak to set the course and direction of our lives

1.     We use words 2 get us where we want to go, like a driver uses a steering wheel

2.     Rom 4:17-U call things that be not like they be b/c u don’t like the way they be

III.   Psalm 12:4-People want Jesus to be their Lord, but their lips to be their own

A.    The primary use of words is not to express yourself & communicate; the primary use for words is to profit, bless, edify, minister grace, release faith, set direction of life

1.     All expressing & communicating must be done inside those boundaries; if you can’t express and communicate inside those boundaries, then don’t

2.     Learn to communicate inside the boundaries of faith

B.     If you’re using your words primarily to express how you feel and communicate what’s going on that will be counterproductive to victory

1.     When u hear something bad the first thing that you should do is zip it, until you find out what to say that’s going to set the direction of this thing right

IV.   Wrong reasons for talking-Why we shouldn’t talk

A.    Don’t to express yourself when; talk to express God-John 8:26, 12:50

1.     Don’t use your words to express your feelings, your thoughts, or your opinions; you use your words to express what God said 

2.     Hebrews 3:1,4:14-16-Hold fast to our confession of faith, not your feelings

a.      He knows how you feel, he’s been there; but what you do you believe?

b.      If you want to find grace to help, hold fast to your confession of faith

c.      People in search of sympathy talk the problem; people in search of victory talk the Word

3.     People want to talk to express how they feel, but if they way feel is not in line with the Word of God, then it doesn’t need to be expressed

a.      Dan 3, Num 13, 1 Sam 17-How did they feel?-We can only speculate b/c they didn’t tell us how they felt, they told us what they believe

4.     Venting-That’s yielding to something wrong-You’re flesh might feel temporary relief, but spiritually you’re in worse shape than you were before

B.     People are talking to comment on and talk about the problem

1.     John 11:3-4-Jesus heard something bad and he didn’t express how he felt or comment on the problem; he immediately used his words to profit

a.      Jesus loved him and yet wasn’t interested in the details of the sickness

2.     Luke 1:30-56

a.      Satan was there trying to steal the word & rob her of certainty (Mk 4:16)

b.      42-45-If Mary would’ve been around a person saying the wrong things it would destroy her faith-Elisabeth said the right things at the right time

1)      43-Elisabeth calls things that be not as though they were

2)      45-What the Lord told you is going to come to pass

c.      The Lord had the one not going through it talk first

1)      I believe what Mary said was effected by what Elisabeth said

d.      46-Notice Mary doesn’t say: “I just don’t know, I mean to have a baby without a man I’ve never heard anything like that before.  How could that possibly happen?  That would be impossible wouldn’t it? I don’t know maybe I missed God.”

1)      She doesn’t go on and on about how big the problem his, she begins to talk about the goodness and greatness of God

e.      In all this, having a baby without a man is never brought up

3.     1 Sam 17:23-As people comment on the problem they exalt it & it destroys faith

a.      26-He refers to the problem as a no covenant-having Philistine; He talked down to the problem (Who is this?); 37-This is nothing for God

b.      Daniel 3:16-They didn’t comment on how hot the fire looked

C.    People are talking to communicate the evil report

1.     Communicating the evil report-Some bad circumstance, situation, or thing is happening & people use words to tell others that this bad thing is happening

a.      The big thing in this is why and how are you doing it-Are you staying inside the boundaries of faith?

1)      If you’re communicating the evil report in unbelief, in fear, in search of sympathy and wanting people to feel sorry for you-WRONG

2)      If when communicating the evil report you go on and on exalting it and magnifying it-WRONG

3)      Don’t just go around telling everybody everything all the time

b.      What good could come out of communicating the evil report?

1)      NO-People need to know what’s going on so they can pray (Mt 18:19)

2)      NO-They need to know how serious it is So they’ll pray hard (Js 5:16)

c.      What does knowing about your problem do for them or you?

1)      The way many people talk about the problem it drains faith/life

2)      People talk to communicate the evil report & it’s helping no one

2.     Numbers 13-Why are they talking? Why are they saying this?

a.      28-Is this profiting, blessing, building up, ministering grace, releasing faith in God, or setting a positive direction for their lives?

b.      32-Some of the report they gave of the land is true, but it’s evil

1)      The people were stronger than them, the cities were walled, there were giants there, but God called what they said evil

c.      Caleb saw the same problem, but didn’t communicate it; it’s good and we can do it

1)      People of faith rarely reference the problem and even if they do they are very cautious about how they talk about the problem
