Why Are You Talking? - Part 2
Foundation Statement: In the Word of God there
are reasons for talking and if you’re not talking for the right reasons, then
you’re going be saying the wrong things
I. When God speaks His purpose
is to send words to accomplish something
A.
Is 55:11-God speaks 2 send His Word 2
accomplish what is profitable/increase good
1.
8-9-God’s ways and thoughts concerning
talking are higher than ours
2.
10-There’s a purpose for the rain and snow;
it’s doesn’t just rain to be raining
a.
It’s been sent to do something
3.
God’s words have a common denominator; they
lead to profit/increase good
4.
Everything God does, there is purpose behind
it; We should be like him
a.
If the purpose for a thing is unknown, abuse
& destruction are inevitable
b.
People abuse talking, because they don’t know
the purpose for it
B.
Every word you speak does something-It is
helping you or hurting you
II. The purpose for words-Why we
talk
A.
Matthew 12:36-We speak to yield profit, to
increase good
1.
Your words should lead to the increase of
good, ONLY, in yours & others lives
B.
James 3:10-We speak to bless-Causes increase, multiplication, to become greater
1.
Blessing is to speak good things over people
that impart power into their lives for those things to come to pass
C.
Ephesians 4:29-We speak to build up and
minister grace
1.
Your words are to build people up and promote
prosperity in their lives
2.
Your words should minister grace-When u
finish talking the hearers should be built up, full of joy, pleasure, &
delight; strengthened, increased in faith, & stirred to go do of the Word
a.
Watch what you go around telling people; your words shouldn’t burden people; What is telling them that going to do?
3.
What should our conseling
sessions look like?
4.
The Holy Spirit is one of those hearers
D.
2 Corinthians 4:13-We speak to reveal and
release faith in God and in his Word
1.
What does what you just said say about what
you believe?
E.
James 3:3-4-We speak to set the course and
direction of our lives
1.
We use words 2 get us where we want to go,
like a driver uses a steering wheel
2.
Rom 4:17-U call things that be not like they
be b/c u don’t like the way they be
III. Psalm 12:4-People want Jesus
to be their Lord, but their lips to be their own
A.
The primary use of words is not to express yourself
& communicate; the primary use for words is to profit, bless, edify,
minister grace, release faith, set direction of life
1.
All expressing & communicating must be
done inside those boundaries; if you can’t express and communicate inside those
boundaries, then don’t
2.
Learn to communicate inside the boundaries of
faith
B.
If you’re using your words primarily to
express how you feel and communicate what’s going on that will be
counterproductive to victory
1.
When u hear something bad the first thing
that you should do is zip it, until you find out what to say that’s going to
set the direction of this thing right
IV. Wrong reasons for
talking-Why we shouldn’t talk
A.
Don’t to express yourself when; talk to
express God-John 8:26, 12:50
1.
Don’t use your words to express your feelings, your thoughts, or your
opinions; you use your words to express what God said
2.
Hebrews 3:1,4:14-16-Hold fast to our
confession of faith, not your feelings
a.
He knows how you feel, he’s been there; but
what you do you believe?
b.
If you want to find grace to help, hold fast
to your confession of faith
c.
People in search of sympathy talk the
problem; people in search of victory talk the Word
3.
People want to talk to express how they feel,
but if they way feel is not in line with the Word of God, then it doesn’t need
to be expressed
a.
Dan 3, Num 13, 1 Sam 17-How did they feel?-We can only speculate b/c they didn’t tell us how they
felt, they told us what they believe
4.
Venting-That’s yielding to something wrong-You’re
flesh might feel temporary relief, but spiritually you’re in worse shape than
you were before
B.
People are talking to comment on and talk
about the problem
1.
John 11:3-4-Jesus heard something bad and he
didn’t express how he felt or comment on the problem; he immediately used his
words to profit
a.
Jesus loved him and yet wasn’t interested in
the details of the sickness
2.
Luke 1:30-56
a.
Satan was there trying to steal the word &
rob her of certainty (Mk 4:16)
b.
42-45-If Mary would’ve been around a person
saying the wrong things it would destroy her faith-Elisabeth said the right
things at the right time
1)
43-Elisabeth calls things that be not as
though they were
2)
45-What the Lord told you is going to come to
pass
c.
The Lord had the one not going through it
talk first
1)
I believe what Mary said was effected by what
Elisabeth said
d.
46-Notice Mary doesn’t say: “I just don’t
know, I mean to have a baby without a man I’ve never heard anything like that
before. How could that possibly
happen? That would be impossible
wouldn’t it? I don’t know maybe I missed God.”
1)
She doesn’t go on and on about how big the
problem his, she begins to talk about the goodness and greatness of God
e.
In all this, having a baby without a man is never
brought up
3.
1 Sam 17:23-As people comment on the problem they
exalt it & it destroys faith
a.
26-He refers to the problem as a no
covenant-having Philistine; He talked down to the problem (Who is this?); 37-This
is nothing for God
b.
Daniel 3:16-They didn’t comment on how hot
the fire looked
C.
People are talking to communicate the evil
report
1.
Communicating the evil report-Some bad
circumstance, situation, or thing is happening & people use words to tell
others that this bad thing is happening
a.
The big thing in this is why and how
are you doing it-Are you staying inside the boundaries of faith?
1)
If you’re communicating the evil report in
unbelief, in fear, in search of sympathy and wanting people to feel sorry for
you-WRONG
2)
If when communicating the evil report you go
on and on exalting it and magnifying it-WRONG
3)
Don’t just go around telling everybody
everything all the time
b.
What good could come out of communicating the
evil report?
1)
NO-People need to know what’s going on so
they can pray (Mt 18:19)
2)
NO-They need to know how serious it is So
they’ll pray hard (Js 5:16)
c.
What does knowing about your problem do for
them or you?
1)
The way many people talk about the problem it
drains faith/life
2)
People talk to communicate the evil report
& it’s helping no one
2.
Numbers 13-Why are they talking? Why are they
saying this?
a.
28-Is this profiting, blessing, building up,
ministering grace, releasing faith in God, or setting a positive direction for
their lives?
b.
32-Some of the report they gave of the land
is true, but it’s evil
1)
The people were stronger than them, the
cities were walled, there were giants there, but God called what they said evil
c.
Caleb saw the same problem, but didn’t
communicate it; it’s good and we can do it
1)
People of faith rarely reference the problem
and even if they do they are very cautious about how they talk about the
problem
