The Mirror Of The Word
I. One Satan’s most prevalent
areas of attack is a man’s image of himself, his self-identity or how he sees
himself
A.
Proverbs 23:7,4:23-No matter who you really
are, if the enemy can distort your view and get you to see yourself in a
different way, he can keep you from being who you really are and walking it out
in your life (EX: The Eagle and the Chickens)
B.
Who you really are (what God says you are) becomes
irrelevant when you see yourself a different way (Exodus 33:1, Numbers 14:28,
34, Hebrews 4:2)
C.
If Satan can steal our identity, he can keep
our potential from manifesting (Exodus 33:1)
D.
The enemy will always have a voice that’s
trying to shape your image and keep your potential trapped
E.
People who don’t know who they are will
experience unnecessary harm (Acts 22:22)
F.
Your view is distorted and your identity is
stolen when you fail to look in the mirror of the Word of God
II. The word is likened to a
mirror (James 1:22-25)
A.
24-When you’re unaware of who you are you’re
positioned to be deceived about who are
B.
24-There’s believers out there who have
forgotten what quality of being they are
1.
24-People who don’t continue to look in the
Word forget they’re healed, forget they’re the righteousness of God
2.
24-People forget who they are because they
don’t continue to look in the mirror; other’s never know who they are to start
with because they’ve never looked into the mirror
C.
25-If you’ll continue to look into the Word
you won’t forget who you are, but you’ll do who you are by faith and when you
do that will come to pass
D.
I go to the mirror of the word to see who I
am
1.
The mirror never lies (Hebrews 6:17)
E.
To be something different in life you’re
going to have to believe something different about yourself and to believer
something different about yourself you’re going to have to look into a new
mirror
III. Satan attempts to steal your
identity through you’re the voice feelings, voice of circumstances, and the
voice unbelieving people
A.
We got to find ourselves in the scripture
1.
Too many times we’re getting our identity
from what our feelings say, what our circumstances say, and what other
unbelieving people say instead of going to the mirror of the word to find out
who we are
2.
John 1:22, Luke 4:16-He didn’t say I feel
like the one crying in the wilderness, he didn’t say the circumstances say I’m
this one, he didn’t say those people told me I was so and so; he quoted the
scripture
a.
When they asked him who he was, he quotes
scripture
b.
Romans 4:17-Abraham before God acted like God
1)
Abraham didn’t look like or feel like the
Father of many nations, but the mirror said he was so he believed it and said
he was
3.
Satan wants to get you to believe, through
your feelings, circumstances, and unbelieving people, that you are something
other than what God says because as a man thinks in his heart so is he
4.
People who feel their way through life will
be deceived (Genesis 27:22)
a.
People who can’t see the truth have to feel
their way through life
b.
But I can see the truth of the word so I
don’t have to feel my way around
c.
You can’t trust your feelings (EX: Run into
the door)
B.
Who told you that? – Genesis 3:11
1.
Adam fell to the place that what he sees and
what he feels and what he perceives with is five physical senses is dictating
what’s truth
a.
Where before God spoke to his spirit, his
spirit told his mind and his body what was true based on what God said
b.
If you believe what you see, you’ll always
have what you see; if you believe what God says in spite of what you see, then
what you see will change to match what he says
2.
Who told you that you were naked?
a.
You don’t need a great revelation to know if
you’re naked, but God was pointing that your senses told you that and not me
3.
God is supposed to be the source of our
knowledge about who we are (Gen 2:17)
a.
Where are you getting your knowledge from
about you? Your feelings, your circumstances, other people?
IV. We walk by faith in what the
mirror says and not by what we perceive with our physical senses (2 Corinthians
5:7)
A.
I live and conduct by life based on my faith
in what the mirror says and not by what I see or perceive with the senses
1.
Matthew 4:3-I live by what the word says
about me
2.
My feelings might be saying one thing, but I
go to the word to find out what it says and believe that
B.
Many people’s biggest problem is they don’t
accept what they see in the mirror
1.
It’s pride; God says one thing about you, but
you say another
a.
1 Peter 1:15-He says you’re Holy you say
you’re not
b.
1 Peter 1:18-He says you’re worth it and you’re
say you’re not
c.
2 Corinthians 5:21-He says you’re the
righteousness of God, you say you’re unrighteous sinner
d.
Romans 8:31-He says you’re more than a
conqueror; you say you don’t think you can make it
e.
1 Peter 2:24-He says you’re healed, you say you’re
sick
f.
Romans 6:22-He says you’re free, you say you
are addicted
g.
2 Corinthians 8:9-He says you’re rich, you
say don’t say rich in church
h.
John 14:27-He say you have peace, you say
you’re stressed out and afraid
i.
John 16:22-He say you have joy, you say
you’re so discouraged
j.
Psalm 91-He says no evil befalls you, you say
some things just happen
k.
Psalm 103-He says you’re youth is renewed
like the eagles you say I can’t do it like I used to haha!
2.
Joshua and Caleb told the rest of them what
the mirror said and they said, No we’re not!
C.
Many people let the mirror of the Word be
fogged up by the circumstances of life and it keeps them from seeing the real
truth
