Slain By The Jawbone Of An Ass
I. Slain by the jawbone of an
ass-Judges 15:14-16
A.
Fool-Stupid fellow, dullard, simpleton, lacks
understanding, acts contrary to wisdom
1.
12:15-Thinks his way is right (in his own
eyes)---12:16-He’s mad and people know it --- 14:3-Pride is in their mouth --- 15:2-Mouth
pours out foolishness --- 15:5-Won’t receive instruction --- 15:14-Feed on
foolishness --- 18:2-Has no delight in understanding --- 18:6-Is always in
strife and contention --- 22:15-It’s in the heart of a child --- 23:9-Despises
wisdom --- 26:11-Returns to his folly --- 28:26-Trust in his own heart --- 29:11-Speaks
all that’s on his mind
B.
Fools are destroyed their own words; not by
the devil
1.
Proverbs 18:7-CEV-Saying foolish things is
like setting a trap to destroy yourself
2.
Ecclesiastes 10:12-GW-A fool’s lips are
self-destructive
II. The Mouth-Life
Connection-What u have in life is connected to what you’ve been saying
A.
Mark 11:23-There’s a connection between what
a man has and what a man says
1.
Doubting keeps this from working (If you say
you’re healed, but are unsure if it will manifest it won’t)
2.
Matthew 21:21-Jesus said we could do this
B.
Matthew 12:33-37-What a man believes is what
he will say and what he says is what he will have
1.
33-The tree represents what you believe
(Proverbs 23:7)
2.
34-What you say is the result of what you
believe (2 Corinthians 4:13)
3.
35-If you put something good in your heart,
you’ll believe it, say it out your mouth, and have it
a.
You’re bringing forth in life based on what’s
in your heart and what’s coming out your mouth
4.
To get different fruit he addresses the tree;
focus on the tree & make it good
a.
We’re too fruit oriented: Change what you’re
believing and speaking and the fruit will change
b.
You’re wanting to get different results and
he’s saying change what you’re believing and speaking
C.
The importance of loading your heart; You
have to load your heart
1.
This hasn’t worked 4 people b/c they haven’t
taken the time 2 load their heart
2.
Speaking words to change things, without
loading your heart with the Word of God, is like grabbing a handful of bullets
and throwing them at something and then being surprised it didn’t work the way
a gun does
3.
The way u load a gun w/ bullets is the way u
have 2 load ur heart w/ the Word
III. Your words carry so much
weight in your life that they could keep what God spoke over your life from
coming to pass
A.
2 Peter 3:9-It’s not God’s will or plan any
man perish; but people perish because they refuse to believe and speak the
thing necessary to make Jesus their Lord
1.
God has a corporate will for this Earth, for
mankind & those things will come to pass no matter what; but His will
coming to pass in your life is no certain thing
B.
The manifestation of God’s plan in your life
is effected by what you say
1.
Luke 1:11-20-God shut his mouth b/c he didn’t
believe His Words and if he didn’t believe his words, he would speak against
them and keep them from coming to pass in his life
a.
If it didn’t matter what he said, shutting
his mouth wasn’t necessary
b.
A man’s words could have effected God’s Words
2.
Ex 3:8, 33:1-2, Num 13:2-God’s plan was to
take them into the prosperous land
a.
14:28-Dying in the wilderness was not God’s
plan; but they kept persisting in saying the wrong thing
b.
14:34-What they said hindered/effected what
God said
c.
14:31-People are unknowingly resisting the
will of God for their lives by believing and speaking in opposition to it
d.
Josh 14:6-If you’ll get your mouth right no
man, situation, or circumstance will be able to keep God’s good plan from
coming to pass in your life
C.
God has a good life prepared for us; people
are rebelling against w/ their mouths
1.
Eph 2:10-For we are God's [own] handiwork
(His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those
good works which God predestined (planned beforehand)
for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in
them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live].
2.
Psalm 34:10-If you want to live the good
life, then watch your mouth
D.
God has said it, but you have to say it (Romans
10:8)
1.
Concerning your life, what you say is as significant as
what He says
2.
What you’re not saying with your mouth will
not come to pass in your life
a.
Most people’s problem is they’re saying
nothing
IV. Your mouth is the steering
wheel of your life
A.
James 3:1-6-Your life is going in the
direction your words are taking it
1.
Wherever the bit goes the horse goes,
wherever the rudder goes the ship goes, wherever your tongues goes your life
goes
2.
If you steer away from where you want to go,
you’ll never get there
B.
Romans 4:17-We call things that be not as
though they are b/c we want to get away from what be and get to what be not
1.
Luke 13:8-He didn’t say oh sweetie I know it
must be hard… --- You are loosed
2.
People are calling what is and talking what
is and they’re just circling what is
C.
If Satan can’t control your mouth, he can’t
control your life
1.
In the passenger seat you have no control
2.
God is in control: Sorry NO --- if you’re
saying what he says, then yes
3.
Satan wants to get the wrong words in you
through circumstances b/c you will say them out your mouth and they will come
to pass and he’s in control (Mark 4:24, Proverbs 4:23)
V. Hold fast to saying the same
thing God says (Hebrews 4:14-16,10:23)
A.
Hebrews 10:23-Hold fast to your confession of
faith w/o being moved
B.
Hebrews 4:14-16
1.
14-Hold fast to saying what I said (People
want to talk the problem, feelings)
2.
16-Persist in your confession of faith and
come boldly to his throne without wavering and you’ll find grace
