Who Do You Trust?

I.      God will be a shield to those who trust him (Psalm 115:9-11)

A.    Prov 30:5, 29:25-Those who trust God, He will be their shield & therefore they’ll be safe

1.      Psalm 28:7 The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped:

2.      Psalm 144:2-My goodness, and my fortress; my high tower, and my deliverer; my shield, and he in whom I trust; Psalm 18:2-The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

3.      Psalm 16:1-Preserve me, O God: for in thee do I put my trust.

B.     You determine who you trust & therefore determine whether or not you’re shielded-Isa 12:2

1.      You can trust God and be shielded or not trust him and be vulnerable; it’s up to you

C.    Those who don’t trust God or who have put their trust in things other than God will not be shielded and therefore will not be safe; This is a sober reality

1.      It’s not that people are consciously not trusting God; it’s that they are subconsciously putting their trust in other things and not realizing it

II.     One of the primary objectives of the devil is to get you to put your trust in things other than God because he knows if you do that you will not be shielded and you will not be safe

A.    Job 15:31-Whomever you trust you’ve just deemed responsible for taking care of you and you are limited to what they can do

1.      Whatever you trust in is what you’ll get in exchange for your trust

2.      If you trust in things other than God you’ll get what they can do, if you trust in God you’ll get what he can do

B.     It’s useless to put your trust in uncertain things because they are uncertain

1.      Psalm 33:16-17-Don’t put your trust in a horse for safety; it’s a vain thing for safety

a.      18-The fear of the Lord is not vain-Psalm 115:11, Proverbs 19:23

b.      20-Who are they looking to?

2.      Psalm 127:1-2-Don’t trust the watchmen, trust God

a.      It’s useless to worry because you’re not trusting; it’s not safe

b.      You’re worrying b/c you want to be safe, but worrying is keeping you from safety

3.      Example-Trusting in that vine 

C.    Jerem 41-43-It’s a dangerous thing to put ur trust in anything/anybody other than God

1.      41:17-18-They’re going to Egypt because they are afraid of the Chaldeans and they believe that Egypt will provide the with safety and security-Who are they looking to? 

2.      42:1-3-They already decided what they were going to do, before seeking God

3.      42:11-God promises to keep them safe in the land they’re end

a.      God was telling them if you’ll stay where I tell u & trust me, even though in the natural it appears to be an unsafe place, you’ll be safe; but if u go down to Egypt b/c it looks safe and you put your trust in Egypt and not in Me you won’t be safe

4.      42:14-They’re trusting Egypt to keep them safe and to provide for them

a.      If they’re trusting Egypt, they’re not trusting God; this isn’t safe

5.      43:7-The went to Egypt b/c they trusted in it and not in God

D.    Jeremiah 17:15

1.      If you trust in man you’re empowered to fail-dangerous

2.      If you trust God you’ll be safe in an unsafe place

E.     Isaiah 30:1-3-When you don’t trust God, the thing you do trust will disappoint you

1.      Romans 10:11-If you put your trust in God you’ll never be disappointed 

III.   What does it mean to trust God?

A.    Trust relies on God-Psalm 23:1

1.      When you aren’t looking to God it reveals lack of trust

a.      Trust constant looks to God in everything for everything

b.      Trust in God is revealed in that you look to Him first and then only Him

2.      Whomever you look to first and the most is who you trust; it reveals who you have confidence in

a.      EX: Do you look to your paycheck, your job, medicine, ect.

3.      I’m looking to him because a trust He’s the answer

B.     Trust is not moved, it’s committed, planted like a tree-Jeremiah 17:7

1.      Trust commits to do it’s part no matter what because it trust God will do His

a.      Trust doesn’t ask questions, wonder, or become weary it continues

b.      Lack of continuing reveals lack of trust

2.      I’m not moved because a trust Him that what he said is true

C.    Trust will rest

1.      Trust is revealed by the presence peace – Phil 4:8

2.      Trust is revealed by the absence of worry, frustration, and discouragement

3.      Trust always has a good attitude

4.      Trust knows everything is going to be alright

5.      I’m resting in quietness and peace because I trust Him

D.    Trust is not revealed by who you say you trust, but it’s revealed by what you do

1.      Who am I looking to? Whom am I relying on?

2.      If I say I trust God, am I easily moved?  Am I continuing?

3.      If I say I trust God is peace present and frustration, discouragement, and worry absent?
