The Humanity Of Jesus

I.      It’s important that we recognize the make-up of God and it is this: One God three persons

A.    One God yes, one person no; Three persons, one God-1 John 5:7

1.      Jesus came by water and blood as a man

2.      There are three in Heaven bearing record, not one, but three and the three are one

a.    1 Cor 2:10-But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searches all things, yea, the deep things of God. ---- Is He searching Himself?

b.    John 16:13-Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. 14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. 15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

1)       Is the spirit of God hearing from Himself

2)       Is the Spirit of God glorifying Himself?

3)       Is the Spirit of God receiving from Himself?

c.     Luke 22:42-Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. --- If there was one person it would be our will, but there are three persons

d.    John 8:26-I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him. 27 They understood not that he spake to them of the Father. 28 Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.

1)       Did Jesus send Himself?

2)       Did Jesus hear from Himself?

3)       Did Jesus teach Himself?

e.    Matthew 3:16-And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

1)       Did Jesus descend upon himself?

2)       Did Jesus call himself is His own son?

B.     You need to learn to keep them all as one God (which most do), but then separate them as three persons (which most don’t)-Genesis 1:26

1.      Who is us? – That’s the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit

2.      The Word God is Elohim and it is an uniplural noun

a.    Church is an uniplural noun; You’re talking about 1 church, but not 1 person

b.    Family is a uniplural noun; You’re talking about 1 family, but not 1 person

II.     Jesus functioned as a man anointed of God and we must see Him that way

A.    The thing that makes God, God, is His ever-present, all-powerful, all-knowing abilities; Jesus stripped himself of all those privileges and dignity and became a man

1.      Philippians 2:5-7-AMP-Let this same attitude and purpose and [humble] mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus: [Let Him be your example in humility:] Who, although being essentially one with God and in the form of God [possessing the fullness of the attributes which make God God], did not think this equality with God was a thing to be eagerly grasped or retained,7 But stripped Himself [of all privileges and rightful dignity], so as to assume the guise of a servant (slave), in that He became like men and was born a human being

2.      Jesus did not function as God

a.    God’s omnipresent; Jesus wasn’t everywhere all the time-John 11

b.    God’s omnipotent; Jesus had to be anointed of God-Acts 10:38

c.     God’s omniscient: Jesus learned, He grew in wisdom, to know what to say He had to Hear from the Father, to know what to do He had to Hear from the Father

B.     When you see Jesus functioning and operating in the Earth remember He is functioning and operating as man anointed by God and not as God

1.      Acts 10:38-Jesus had to be anointed here because he left his power there and came here as a man; Jesus of Nazareth became Jesus Christ, the anointed One

a.    This the Word that God is having preached all over the place

b.    This grace, the anointing, this empowerment is what enabled Jesus to live the way he lived; He’s functioning as a man graced and anointed

c.     If I’m supposed to live the way he did, but don’t have the same power to do so that he did then that’s unjust

1)       Rev22:21-There is grace available to live like Him, talk like Him, act like Him

2)       Philippians 4:13, Acts 1,2-That anointing that was on Jesus is in and on me

3)       The thing that made Him who He was, is wanting to make me that way

d.    You don’t see Jesus do one miracle until He was anointed-Matthew 3,4

1)       Without the anointing no miracles could be done through Him

2.      John 14:9-12-Jesus didn’t credit the works to himself but rather to the Father doing it

a.    According to Jesus he didn’t heal anybody, he didn’t deliver anybody, he didn’t calm any storms, multiply any fish, or raise anybody from the dead

b.    We can do and live the way he did and lived because the same Father that was in Him doing the works is the same Father that’s in me doing the works

1)       The same grace and anointing and Holy Ghost he had I have

c.     Every miracle that was accomplished through Him was accomplished by him as a man, yielding to God; He was functioning as a man who yielded to God

III.   When the humanity of Jesus is not acknowledge the magnificence of what He did is missed and faith to operate like him is deflated

A.    When you see Jesus functioning as God it does two things:

1.      It takes away from the greatness of what He did

a.    If He did what He did as God, it’s not as impressive, but what makes what Jesus did so great is that even though He was God, He did what He did as a man

2.      It hinders your faith from believing you can walk as he walked

a.    If he did what he did as God, then I have no chance to do it, but if he did what he did as a man anointed of God there’s hope for me

B.     The Humanity of Jesus

1.      Jesus ate, he drank, he slept-Luke 7:34, Mark 4:38

2.      Hebrews 2:14-18-Jesus was tempted the way you and I are

a.    14-Jesus is a much human as you are

b.    18-James 1:13-God cannot be tempted with evil, but Jesus was because he is functioning as a man and not as God

1)       He had flesh he was tempted to do wrong, to say wrong, to act wrong

3.      He had to live the way you do

a.    John 8:1-9-Jesus was a man who didn’t know what to say

b.    Luke 2:56-This man learned and grew spiritually

c.     Matthew 14:23-This man prayed

d.    John 11-This man lived by faith

e.    John 8:26-This is a man who had to be led by the Spirit

f.      Luke 22:42-23-Jesus was a man who was under severe mental pressure and had to resist the thoughts and fear and torment

g.    Luke 23:34-This is a man who could have gotten in the flesh and held unforgiveness, but resisted and forgave them

4.      Hebrews 4:15-The reality that he could have missed it, he could have yielded to the temptation, he could have yielded to the enemy and was tempted to do so, but didn’t makes what He did so impressive

a.    He had to live by faith, be led by the spirit, walk in love the same way you do; He had to pray, study, learn and grow; He had to resist temptation to sin, to fear, to yield to discouragement and what makes what He did so glorious is that he never yielded and He did it as a man who could have yielded

C.    Jesus showed us the full potential of what God can do through a man who will totally yield to Him; He showed us what a man anointed of God could do

1.      Look at this man, this is a man anointed of God, this is God working through a man, this is deity in humanity (Matthew 4, Luke 22-Resisting the devil, Mark 4:35-Calmed the storm, Mark 5-Jairus’ daughter, The Woman with the issue of blood, Matthew 14:15-Multiplied the fish and loaves, Matthew 15:30-The blind, dumb, lame and maimed got healed, John 11-Lazurus)

2.      Religion has tried to tell us for years that Jesus had something we don’t have

3.      Religion looks at his perfection and his excellence and because they don’t want to strive to meet that standard they blame it on His deity rather than crediting his humanity; It is ironic that Jesus’ deity becomes the crutch of the church (We can’t do the stuff he did, he was Jesus)

a.    If he did it as a man, then it leaves us without excuse takes

b.    When you see it properly it immediately raises the bar in your life

c.     Rather than coming up to the standard that Jesus set and being the kind of man that he was, most people would rather credit everything He did to his deity, so that they can just craw through life in their weak humanity
