Seeking To See Jesus

I.      While we need the principles of the Word we must never forget the person from which these principles came

A.    Every principle given was given because of the love that THE PERSON has for you

1.      The principles flow from a loving person

2.      We got to be cautious that we don’t get so principle-minded that we forget the person

3.      The principle is there to connect you to the person of Jesus

B.     If you remove the PERSON from the principles, the principles become lifeless and dry

1.      We get caught up in things like it’s not working; to get to that place you’ve totally forgot about the HE who loves you and the HE who taught that to you

II.     Luke 19:1-9-We need to get hungry to see Jesus

A.    He sought to see Jesus; He is seeking to see Jesus---That’s what we are doing

1.      Hebrews 12:2, John 1:36-The Word tells us to see Him

2.      This is something he wants greatly; we are not talking about somebody who is passive in his quest, but rather somebody who is urgent and aggressive

a.    When he meets resistance to what he desires, he looks for another way

3.      Do whatever is necessary to see Jesus, who he is, because it’s a foundation key to every issue in life

B.     Jesus pays attention to and talks to those who are endeavoring to see Him

1.      The one in this huge crowd who got his attention was the one who was endeavoring to see him

2.      I believe as we endeavor to make and all out effort to see Jesus like this, Jesus is going to pay attention to us and talk to us

C.    Jesus will abide with, fellowship with, those who are endeavoring to see Him

1.      I believe as we endeavor to make and all out effort to see Jesus like this, Jesus is going to abide with us and fellowship with us

D.    Righteousness was restored to the man who endeavored to see Jesus

1.      Zachariah became what he beheld; We become what we behold

2.      I believe as we endeavor to make and all out effort to see Jesus like this, stuff is going to fall off of our lives and righteousness is going to be restored

E.     The man that endeavored to see Jesus got his victory, his miracle, his breakthrough

1.      I believe as we endeavor to make and all out effort to see Jesus like this, people are going to get their victories and see their breakthroughs

III.   We are supposed to live like Jesus, but you cannot live like Jesus if you are not seeing Him (how he REALLY lived)

A.    Mark 9:15-When you see Jesus you will be left amazed

1.      Seeing Jesus draws you to him

2.      Seeing Jesus will cause you receive him joyfully and welcome him

B.     John 13:15-Jesus gave us the example not just for us to go, “OOH, AHH, WOW,” but he gave us the example for us to follow it (him)

1.      Some people look at Jesus speak to the storm and say, “OOH!” Others look at him lay hands on the sick and say, “AHH!” Some watch Him multiply the fish and the loaves and say, “Wow!” But God is looking for a people who after they get done oohing, ahhing, and wowing will got out and speak to the storm, lay hands on the sick, and multiply some stuff the way he did

2.      1 John 2:6-If you’re born again and abiding in him you SHOULD be living the same way He lived (Even as means the same as)

C.    Matthew 11:27-Jesus commands us to learn of him, watching how he did it

1.      ERV-Accept my teaching. Learn from me. I am gentle and humble in spirit.  And you will be able to get some rest. Yes, the teaching that I ask you to accept is easy.  The load I give you to carry is light.

a.    Matthew 5:48, Luke 6:40-Disciples are supposed to look at their master, watch their master, study their master and then endeavor to live the same way

b.    This seeing him and becoming more like him, this is a constant conscious process and effort where we look at him, look at us and adjust and then do it again

c.     Some aren’t looking close enough into him (Jesus did touch every sick person)

2.      One thing that you’ll see is that nothing was forced in His life

a.    You don’t see Jesus working stuff up; whatever the Father told him to do he did, whatever he told him to say he said

IV.   See Jesus functioning as a man anointed by God rather than functioning as God

A.    One God yes, one person no; Three persons, one God-1 John 5:7

1.      Genesis 1:26-Who is us? – That’s the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit

a.    If Jesus is the Father and the Holy Spirit then who is us

2.      The Word God is Elohim and it is an uniplural noun

a.    Church is an uniplural noun; You’re talking about 1 church, but not 1 person

1)       You’re not me, I’m not you, but we are both the church

b.    Family is a uniplural noun; You’re talking about 1 family, but not 1 person

3.      Who’s he praying to if Jesus is the Father?

a.    How could he say not MY will, but YOUR will be done?

b.    There must be two separate wills and two separate persons

4.      When Jesus came up after he was baptized, the Father spoke, and the Holy Spirit descended upon him; Did he descend upon himself?  Did he speak to Himself? 

B.     Jesus functioned as a man anointed of God-Philippians 2:7, Hebrews 2:16

1.      The thing that makes God, God is His ever-present, all-powerful, all-knowing abilities

a.    Jesus stripped himself of all those privileges and dignity and became like men

2.      Jesus did not function as God

a.    God’s omnipresent; Jesus wasn’t everywhere all the time, he was in one place

b.    God’s omnipotent; Jesus had to be anointed of God-Acts 10:38

c.     God’s omniscient: Jesus learned, He grew in wisdom, to know what to say He had to Hear from the Father, to know what to do He had to Hear from the Father

3.      Acts 10:38-Jesus had to be anointed because he left his power there and came here as a man; Jesus of Nazareth became Jesus Christ, the anointed One

a.    This grace, the anointing, this empowerment is what enabled Jesus to live the way he lived; He’s functioning as a man graced and anointed

1)       If I’m supposed to live the way he did, but don’t have the same power to do so that he did then that’s unjust

b.    Revelation 22:21-There is grace available to live like Him, talk like Him, act like Him

c.     If He did what He did as God, then it’s not as impressive, but what makes what Jesus did so great is that even though He was God, He did what He did as a man

1)       If he did what he did as God, then I have no chance to do it, but if he did what he did as a man anointed of God, I’m a man anointed of God so there’s hope for me

4.      James 1:13, Hebrews 4:15-God can’t be tempted with evil, but Jesus was

a.    He had flesh he was tempted to do wrong, to say wrong, to act wrong

C.    John 14:9-12-Jesus didn’t credit the works to himself

1.      Jesus credits the things accomplished to the Father doing it

a.    According to Jesus he didn’t heal anybody, he didn’t deliver anybody, he didn’t calm any storms, multiply in fish, or raise anybody from the dead

2.      We can do and live the way he did and lived because the same Father that was in Him doing the works is the same Father that’s in me doing the works

a.    The same grace and anointing and Holy Ghost he had I have

3.      Every miracle that was accomplished through Him was accomplished by him as a man, yielding to God

a.    He was functioning as a man who yielded to God

D.    It’s vital we see him properly in this regard

1.      When you see Him functioning as God it weakens the greatness of what He did

2.      When you see Him functioning as God it hinders your faith from believing you can walk as he walked
