Seeing, Hearing, Doing
I. When we look at Jesus the
first three things you see are that He could do nothing of himself, He only
said what he heard and did what he saw
A.
John 5:19-Jesus only did what he saw
1. AMP-The Son is able to do nothing of Himself (of His own accord); but He
is able to do only what He sees the
Father doing, for whatever the Father does is what the Son does in the same way
[in His turn]
2. CEB-I assure you that the Son can’t do anything
by Himself except what he sees the
Father doing. Whatever he sees the
Father does, the Son does likewise.
3. ERV-I assure you that the Son can do nothing
alone. He does only what he sees the Father doing. The Son does the same things the Father
does.
4. GW-I can guarantee this truth: The Son cannot do anything on his
own. He can do only what he sees the Father doing. Indeed, the Son does exactly what the
Father does.
5. HCSB-I assure you: The Son is not able to do
anything on His own, but only what He sees
the Father doing. For whatever the
Father does, the Son also does these things in the same way.
6. Phil-What the son does is always modeled on what the Father does
7. NIRV-What I’m about to tell you is true. The Son can do nothing by himself. He can only do what he sees his father doing. What the Father does, the Son also does.
8. YLT-The son is not able to do anything of himself, if he may not see the Father doing anything; for
whatever things He may do, these also the Son in like manner doeth
9. WYC-The son may not of himself do anything, but that thing that he sees the Father doing
10. MSG-I’m telling you this straight. The son can’t independently do a thing,
only what he sees the Father
doing. What the Father does, the
Son does.
B.
John 8:26-Jesus only said what he heard; Jesus
speaks what he heard
1. AMP-I have much to say about you and to judge
and condemn. But He who sent me is
true (reliable), and I tell the world [only] the things that I have heard from Him. 28 I do nothing of Myself (of my own
accord or on my own authority), but I say [exactly] what My Father has taught
me
2. CEB-I do nothing on my own, but I say just what the Father has taught me
3. ESV-I do nothing on my own authority, but speak just as the Father has
taught me
4. GW-I have a lot I could say about you and a lot
I could condemn you for. But the
one who sent me is true. So I tell the world exactly what he has told me.
5. PHIL-There is much in you that I could speak about and condemn. But he
who sent me is true and I am only speaking to this world what I myself have heard from him. 28 I do nothing on my own authority but
speak simply as my Father as taught me.
6. LEB-I do nothing from myself, but just as the Father taught me, I say
these things
7. NLT-I have much to say about you and much to
condemn, but I won’t. For I say
only what I have heard from the one who sent me, and he is completely
truthful. 28 I do nothing on my
own, but say only what the Father taught me.
C.
Don’t over-spectacularlize this seeing and
hearing-John 8:38
1. Satan tries to keep people in confusion trying to make everything
spectacular
2. How were they seeing their Father? They wouldn’t have called them
visions, they weren’t hearing audible voices, but something would come up in
them and they’d see it (think about it) and then they’d go say it or do it not
realizing it was the enemy revealing it to them; The are seeing and hearing
inside
3. Jesus was hearing and seeing inside
a.
Mark 2:8-And immediately when Jesus perceived (To know, To find out)
in his spirit
b.
John 6:61-When Jesus knew in himself (Perceive, Notice, Discern, To Know,
To get knowledge of)
4. He didn’t sit around and try to think of something to say; he communed
with the Father and the Father showed him things and he went and did what he
saw and said what he heard and great things happened
II. Jesus could do nothing of
himself; Jesus never just picked what he would say or do-John 8:28, 5:19,30 (NASB-I
do nothing on my own initiative, but I speak these things as the Father has
taught me)
A.
Jesus could do nothing of himself (People
have a hard time with that because they’ve seen Him incorrectly functioning as
God in the Earth)
1. He’s answering their statement that He has made Himself equal to God by
saying, the son can do nothing of himself
2. Jesus didn’t pick what he would do; If he said it it’s because he heard
first and if he did it is because he saw first
B.
We’ve made the mistake of picking what we are
going to do and our grounds for doing it is because the Word says it
1. The Bible is a big book and all of it is true and you don’t do all of it
every time something comes up; when something comes up what part of it applies?
How do you do it? What way do you do it?
2.
Are you going to praise your way through,
speak the word, pray in the spirit, or pray the prayer of agreement, anoint
with oil? Are you going to lay hands on it, rebuke it, bind it, or loose it?
a.
All of that is right, but not all of that is
right at the same time for one thing
b.
We’ve thought because all those are in the
Word we could just pick whatever one
we wanted and it’d work; that would
be fine if that’s what Jesus did
c.
If you just pick one it’s in the flesh and it
won’t amount to anything
C.
There’s a specific thing to do and to say for
every situation and without that thing there will be no victory
1.
Many times we pick something scriptural to do
and then in our own efforts we are going to do something, never even bothering
to look inside, and that is the flesh; you in yourself and in your own efforts
trying to do something and if Jesus said he could of his own self do nothing
what makes you think you can-John 6:63, 2 Corinthians 3:6, Romans 7:6)
2.
You don’t choose what you say, you don’t pick
what you do (even if what you’re going to pick to say and do is scriptural)
a.
What it ends up being is you alone in a
corner with a principle just doing something in your own efforts, that you
haven’t seen or heard
b.
When I face a situation the first thing I do
is look inside
3. People have learned that we have authority in the name of Jesus and that
we say it and believe it so then they just go say in the name of Jesus and
nothing happens and they don’t realize it’s because you did it in the flesh
a.
We’ve learned some things about faith and
authority but without this part of it those parts are inadequate
1) You can’t separate faith and the principles from being led by the Spirit
b.
Jesus said I don’t do anything of myself;
Jesus didn’t do things like that; Jesus said I can of my own self do nothing;
Jesus didn’t just go and say and do things; he only said what he heard and he
only did what he saw
c.
Faith and authority are right, but the reason
it’s not producing is because people are doing it in the flesh
1) People have thought it’s just by faith and I just decided to go say and
do; Jesus never said I just went and did it by faith; he did what he did by
faith and by seeing and hearing
d.
If it’s just you and something you decided to
do it’s flesh and it means nothing
1) It doesn’t matter if you’re quoting scriptures or rebuking or binding if
you just chose to do it and picked something to do it’s in the flesh
2) The reason this is a problem is because so many times folks don’t want
to live right; they don’t want to live holy and close to the Lord; they want to
live carnal, they want to live fleshy, but then they want do the spiritual
thing when the need something, but they are trying to do spiritual things in
the flesh
3) You can’t live carnal and just be a complete flesh individual and learn
faith principles and go one, two, three, bingo; you actually have to pray and
know God, walk with the Lord and hear from Him and see from Him
4) The servant is not above his master; if Jesus had to pray and wait on
God and walk close with Him and say I can’t do anything of myself, I have to
see it, I have to hear it then we’re not going to be able lay around and watch
12 hours of TV and not have know God or scriptures and just jump up and say in
the name of Jesus and have amazing things happen
a) We’re going to do it the exact same way Jesus did it
4.
We’ve just resorted to doing what we’ve heard
or seen others do rather than hearing and seeing the Father do it
a.
The sad thing is, then we hear somebody else
say something like, “I curse you from the root,” and they get results so then
we go to cursing from the roots or we hear about somebody paying somebody
else’s car payment and then the Lord blesses them with a knew car so then we go
to making a car payment; We hear somebody plead the blood and get results so we
go to pleading the blood, we hear somebody speak to the mountain so we speak to
it, we hear somebody use the name of Jesus so we use it, he hear somebody speak
the Word so we speak it and the reality is the blood works, speaking to the
mountain works, the name of Jesus works, the Word works, but you’re trying to
get results without seeing and hearing and it doesn’t work like that
D.
The word says wisdom is the principle thing
and it’s hasn’t been anything to us-Prov 4:7
1.
Wisdom hasn’t been the tenth thing to us; the
problem has been we do all we know to do, instead of doing what see saw and
heard from him to do; when we do all we know to do and nothing works, then we
start seeking for wisdom
2.
When you talk about knowledge you’re talking
about information/revelation that has been accumulated; but wisdom knowing how
to use and apply the knowledge you gained for the specific situation you’re in
and it comes by seeing and hearing from the Father
3.
You don’t just go to releasing your faith,
you don’t just go to praying, you don’t just go to binding, loosing, and
rebuking; the first thing that you do is look inside Father what do I say, what
do I do; That’s what the Master did & that’s what will get results
E.
We see an effectiveness in Jesus’ ministry
that is unlike anything we’ve seen
1. The reason he was so effective was because of this principle right here;
he only said what he heard and did what he saw
III. To do the works that Jesus
did we are going to have to do what Jesus did and he heard and spoke and saw
and did and then the Father would work through and great things would happen
A.
John 14:12-We can do the works that Jesus did
and greater works
1. People have taken Jesus has their moral example, but have taken the
spiritual supernatural part of Jesus’ life and put it in a category
unattainable to us
a.
They say all that calming storms, speaking to
trees, healing people that was for Jesus because he was the son of God and we
can never do that, but we can endeavor to live a moral good life like he did;
that’s not true
b.
We are supposed to have a spiritual life like
Jesus has as well as a moral good life
2. Jesus credits the Father in Him to the works that were done
a.
To many people get focused on themselves: Can
I do it? Do I have enough faith? Can I heal them? Can I set them free?
b.
Jesus couldn’t do anything of those things of
himself, so neither can you
3. These works are closer to us than we have thought; this is closer to our
reach and it can happen easier and quicker in us and through us than we might
have imagined
B.
John 5:1-9-We can do the same kind of works
Jesus did if we will by the spirit see and hear like he did in the spirit and
then by faith we’ve got to say what we heard and do what we saw
1. The Father worked and Jesus worked: what was Jesus’ work?
a.
According to Jesus he didn’t heal this guy,
but rather it was the Father in Him
2. How did this happen? Jesus saw the Father do it and then he did what he
saw and said what he heard and the Father in Him did the work
a.
Jesus’ work was seeing and doing and hearing
and saying
b.
It was the father in Jesus that did it and
the way he did is He showed him
3. Jesus went up to the pool to minister to that man because that’s what he
saw and he said what he heard; he didn’t ask that question off of the top of
his head or pick this guy at random
a.
That man was lying there for 38 years how
come Jesus didn’t do anything before when he passed him? How come Jesus didn’t
heal all these other sick people?
4. If we are interested in doing the works that Jesus did we have to get
interested in hearing and seeing the way he did
a.
We’ve been strong on the faith part, but weak
on the vision part---Strong on principles weak on perception
5. Mark 7:32-They tried to get Jesus to lay hands on him, but he wouldn’t
C.
It’s not that Jesus has more power than you;
you have the same Holy Ghost, the same power; it’s that he was led better-Acts
10:38, John 8:29
1.
It’s not just that he had the power to do
something it’s that he knew what to do; the mountain is not the problem you
have power to move the mountain; man’s own ignorance is his mountain
2.
The leading of the Holy Spirit is connected
to supernatural results
a.
Not being led by the Spirit will keep you
from the supernatural
b.
You can’t get something supernatural without
doing something supernatural and you can’t do something supernatural without
knowing something supernatural
3.
We’ve missed it because rather than getting
it from the Holy Spirit WE decided let’s do something by faith
IV. This is why Jesus’ life was
so unforced-Matthew 11:27
A.
He’s never trying to work anything up or do
anything in himself of his own power
B.
John 4:34-My meat is to do the will of him
that sent me, and to finish his work.
C.
John 5:19-Then answered Jesus and said unto
them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but
what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.
D.
John 5:30-I can of mine own self do nothing:
as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will,
but the will of the Father which hath sent me.
E.
John 5:36-for the works which the Father hath
given me to finish, the same works that I do,
F.
John 6:38-For I came down from heaven, not to
do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.
G.
John 7:16-Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.
H.
John 8:25-26, 28-29- 26 I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that
sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of
him. 27 They understood not that he spake to
them of the Father. 28 Then said Jesus unto them, When
ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I
speak these things. 29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath
not left me alone; for I do always those things that
please him.
I.
John 9:4-I must work the works of him that
sent me,
J.
John 12:49-For I have not spoken of myself;
but the Father which sent me, he gave me a
commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
K.
John 14:31-And as the Father gave me
commandment, even so I do.
L.
John 17:8-For I have given unto them the
words which thou gavest me;
