Righteous Receiving

I.      1 John 3:23-Gulit, condemnation, and a sin consciousness will rob you of confidence and in turn keep you from receiving from God

A.    16-19-When you’re not doing what you’re supposed to do it effects your confidence

1.      Translations

a.    ERV-My dear friends if we don’t feel that we are doing wrong, we can be without fear when we come to God.  And God gives us what we ask for

b.    Phillips-19-20 If we live like this, we shall know that we are children of the truth and can reassure ourselves in the sight of God, even if our own hearts make us feel guilty. For God is infinitely greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. 21-23 And if, dear friends of mine, when we realize this our hearts no longer accuse us, we may have the utmost confidence in God’s presence. We receive whatever we ask for, because we are obeying his orders and following his plans.

c.     GW-19This is how we will know that we belong to the truth and how we will be reassured in his presence. 20 Whenever our conscience condemns us, we will be reassured that God is greater than our conscience and knows everything. 21 Dear friends, if our conscience doesn’t condemn us, we can boldly look to God 22 and receive from him anything we ask.

2.      EX: If you’re in debt and God has told you to sow a financial seed and you haven’t done it, it weakens your confidence that your miracle is coming

3.      By doing our part and by doing what God has told us to do it assures our hearts before Him; it builds our confidence

a.    If you have a check in your heart because you haven’t obeyed God, then you need to repent and get forgiven and if possible go do it

B.     21-There’s a connection between condemnation and a lack of confidence

1.      Where there is no guilt, no condemnation there is confidence towards God

a.    When there’s nothing between you and God, it gives birth to confidence

2.      Where there is no confidence, there is no trust, where there is no trust there is no faith and when there is no faith there will be no receiving grace-Rom 4:16, Eph 2:8

a.    Hebrews 10:35-If confidence is absent, receiving is hindered

3.      Guilt and condemnation are designed to rob you of confidence and even keep you from approaching God concerning your situation because you don’t think your behavior warrants you receiving from God

C.    22-Whatsoever we ask we receive because we have confidence towards him and we have confidence towards him because there is no consciousness of sin

1.      I approach him as if sin never existed; in His mind where I am concerned it never did

2.      We keep his commandments and do what pleases him and what pleases him if you do miss it is that you engage 1 John 1:9

a.    I might not be perfect in obedience, but no matter what I’ve done I’m always doing what pleases Him; that helps my confidence

II.     To receive from God guilt and condemnation must be dealt with so that confidence can be established

A.    Matthew 9:1-8-This man is paralyzed and sick and needs to receive healing but before Jesus could minister healing to him, he had to be in a position to receive that healing and you can’t be in that position to receive and be condemned

1.      Obviously his sins being forgiven has to do with his confidence level and confidence level has to do with him receiving from God

a.    If you allow them to past sins will rob of the present confidence that you need to receive from God

2.      To receive from God you have to know your right with God because knowing that you’re right with God produces the confidence that you need to receive from God

B.     Hebrews 4:16-To receive from God it’s imperative that will approach Him confidently

1.      You have the greatest high priest who made the greatest sacrifice and received the greatest cleansing and remission of sin ever

a.    Since we have this great high priest say what he says: I’m holy, unblameable, unreproveable, forgiven, cleansed and the righteousness of God

2.      15-He knows how you feel so don’t talk about how you feel

a.    Yielding to guilt and condemnation is sin

3.      If you want to receive grace in the time of need, then it’s required that you come boldly to the throne of grace, not cowardly, unworthily, with a sin consciousness

a.    Therefore come boldly-Because we have a great high priest who greatly cleansed us and made us right with God

b.    You can’t come confidently with a sin consciousness and guilt

1)       Coming to the throne of grace like that keeps you from receiving grace

4.      MSG-14-16Now that we know what we have—Jesus, this great High Priest with ready access to God—let's not let it slip through our fingers. We don't have a priest who is out of touch with our reality. He's been through trying and testing, experienced it all—all but the sin. So let's walk right up to him and get what he is so ready to give. Take the mercy, accept the help

III.   There is now a connection between how well you receive from God and the revelation you have of your right-standing with God

A.    John 16:23-You can’t approach God the way you need to approach Him to receive from with a consciousness of sin

1.      Aiteo-The word “ask” is the Greek word aiteo, a word that means to be adamant in requesting and demanding assistance to meet tangible needs, such as food, shelter, money and so forth.  Although the word aiteo means to demand or to insist, it does not give a believer license to be arrogant or rude in his approach to God.  In fact, in the New Testament, the word aiteo is used to portray a person addressing a superior.  The person may insist or demand that certain need be met, but he approaches and speaks to his superior with respect and honor.  Additionally, the word aiteo expresses the idea of one that possesses a full expectation to receive what was firmly requested.  The word “ask” destroys any religious picture that we must pitifully beg and plead for the things we need of the Lord.  There is no doubt that this word describes someone who prays authoritatively, in a sense demanding something from God.  This person knows what he needs and is so filled with faith that he isn’t afraid to boldly come into God’s presence to ask and expect to receive what he has requested.

B.     The type of faith you need to approach God and receive from Him begins where righteousness is revealed

1.      When you know that you have a blood bought right to have what you are asking for and that you have a right-standing before the Father the result will be a bold faith that receives

2.      Being aware of your righteousness/rights allows you to be bold in your requests & receive from God-Daniel 3

a.    Knowing that it’s my right b/c Jesus paid for it takes my faith to a whole other level

3.      When you know that you are praying for something that Jesus bought and paid for on the cross and that you have a blood bought right to have what you’re asking for you don’t have to sheepishly utter your requests; You ask boldly because you already know it is what He wants too

a.    To most people prayer is the time they try to talk God into doing something for them

b.    You don’t have to talk God into doing something that was his idea in the first place

C.    The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effectual in its working-James 5:16

1.      There’s a connection between your prayer life being effective and the revelation that you have of your righteousness

2.      It is that way because a righteous man knows he’s righteous and knows what he has a right to

a.    GW-Prayers offered by those who have God’s approval are effective

b.    NL-The prayer from the heart of a man right with God has much power

IV.   God has pointed the scepter of righteousness at you signifying that you are accepted by Him, you’ve found favor with Him so ask what you want and He’ll bring it to pass

A.    Hebrews 1:8-The scepter of righteousness is the scepter of the Kingdom of God

1.      When you made Jesus the Lord of your life he pointed that scepter at you

B.     Things in the OT are a type and shadow of the NT

1.      Esther 4:11-Esther knows that if the king doesn’t point the scepter at you, it’s trouble

2.      Esther 5:1-When the King points the scepter at you, you’ve found favor in his sight

a.    Favor-Grace, acceptance

b.    3-Once the king points that scepter towards you, you’re free to ask and receive

1)       The king offered her half of the Kingdom

c.     6-Once you are right with the king asking and receiving is easy

d.    7:1-The King offers her half the kingdom again

3.      Esther 8:4-Once the king points that scepter towards you, you get out of that begging and crying and get into standing and asking

C.    2 Cor 5:21,Luke 11:32-You’ve been made the righteousness of God will give you the kingdom

1.      John 15:7-Ask what you will and it will be done
