Righteous Faith
I. Heb 10:16-22-A consciousness of
sin and guilt will keep you from fully assured faith
A.
If the
sacrifices in the OT were sufficient the worshippers would be made perfect and
have no more consciousness of sin
1.
2-One of
the inadequacies of the blood of animals is it left the print of sin in the
minds of men
2.
4-It
wasn’t possible for those sacrifices to take away sin, removing the
consciousness of it
3.
1-12-Because
of what happened in these verses our approach & mindset completely changes
a.
13-Jesus
expects me to win so my approach and mindset is I expect to win anything less
is unacceptable
b.
17-God’s
not going to remember your sin; He’s not going to be mindful of it, remind
Himself of it, therefore my approach is I’m not going to be mindful of sin or
remind myself of it
c.
18-My
approach and mindset is I have no sin and have never sinned
d.
19-My
approach is a bold approach knowing God deals with me as though sin never
existed in my life because in his eyes it hasn’t
e.
22-My
approach is one of full assurance of faith; Why wouldn’t he love me, provide
for me, bless me, talk to me, after all I am perfect and holy in His eyes?
f.
22-My
approach is that I’m clean, holy, and pure
g.
23-My
approach is that I hold fast to the confession of faith without wavering
because through the blood I’m right with God and I have the same right to
victory as Jesus
B.
17-19-“Having
THEREFORE brethren boldness” – Why can you be bold?
1.
We have
boldness because He remembers sin no more and sin has been remitted
2.
Boldness-Free and
fearless confidence, cheerful courage, boldness, assurance
3.
There’s a
connection between boldness and righteousness
a.
The
greater revelation I have of my right-standing with God the bolder I’ll become
b.
A lack of
consciousness of your right standing with God and too much consciousness of
your sin will rob you of this boldness
c.
Sin and
sin-consciousness makes cowards of men
1)
The less
conscious of your right-standing that you are, the more of a coward you become
4.
There’s a
connection between being fearless, being confident, being courageous, being
assured and being conscious of your right-standing with God
a.
My
boldness is connected to my righteousness; my confidence, my assurance, my
fearlessness is connected to my right-standing with God
b.
I’m
confident because I’m right with Him; I’m bold because I’m right with Him; I’m
assured because I’m right with Him
C.
22-We can
draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith because we have our
hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience or a sin consciousness
1.
This evil
conscience, this consciousness of sin will keep you from full assurance
a.
If the
enemy can keep you from full assurance he can keep you from receiving from God
b.
The enemy
wants to keep you preoccupied with past sin to keep you from full assurance
2.
There’s a
connection between full assurance of faith and having your heart sprinkled from
and evil conscience; You can’t have fully assured faith and be conscious of sin
D.
23-I can
hold fast to my confession of faith without wavering because I’m the
righteousness of God
II.
Isaiah 32:17-Righteousness and being
consciousness of your righteousness results in peace, quietness, and assurance
A.
Righteousness
works to produce nothing missing and nothing broken in your life
B.
The effect
of walking in your righteousness and being conscious of your righteousness is
the state of cool, confident trust called quietness
C.
The effect
of righteousness is complete and total assurance
III.
Romans 1:17-Be conscious of your
right-standing with God will arouse faith
A.
Righteousness
springs from faith, but leads to more faith
1.
Being
conscious of your right-standing with God will arouse faith, it’ll provoke
faith, produce faith
a.
EX: “Well
I’m just so unworthy. NO! You’re the righteousness of God” --- “Well I just
don’t know if God wants me well. NO! You got a right to healing!”
2.
Being
conscious of your sin will provoke and produce unbelief
B.
In the
word of God the righteousness of God is revealed; The rights that I have as a
believer and my right-standing with my Father is revealed through the word
1.
You can
have no revelation of your righteousness without spending time in the word
2.
Faith
comes by hearing the word because the word reveals your righteousness and as
your righteousness is revealed faith will be provoked
C.
Watch
righteousness arouse faith? If that’s what He did for us when we weren’t right
with Him, how much more will He do now that we are right with Him-Romans 5:6-10
1.
Romans
5:6-10 (Msg)-Christ
arrives right on time to make this happen. He didn’t, and doesn’t wait for us
to get ready. He presented himself for this sacrificial death when we were far
too weak and rebellious to do anything to get ourselves ready. And even if we
hadn’t been so weak, we wouldn’t have know what to do
anyway. We can understand someone
dying for a person worth dying for, and we can understand how someone good and
noble could inspire us to selfless sacrifice. But God put his love on the line
for us by offering his Son in sacrificial death while we were of no use
whatever to him. Now that we are set
right with God by means of this sacrificial death, the consummate blood
sacrifice, there is no longer a question of being at odds with God in any
way. If, when we were at our worst,
we were put on friendly terms with God by the sacrificial death of his Son, now
that we’re at our best, just think of how our lives will expand and deepen by
means of his resurrection life! Now that we have actually received this amazing
friendship with God, we are no longer content to simply say it in plodding
prose. We sing and shout our praises to God through Jesus the Messiah!
IV.
Righteous people who are conscious of their
righteousness will be as bold as lions-Pr 28:1
A.
It’s vital
that you be bold/confident because lack of boldness/confidence will cost you
your victory
1.
Hebrews
10:35-Your reward, your victory is attached to your boldness & confidence
2.
Psalm
78:9,41-Turning back, lack of boldness limits God
B.
Compromise
or a lack of boldness keeps people from seeing the supernatural
1.
The thing
that causes the word to come to pass is total reliance on it & a refusal to
compromise
C.
If there’s
one attribute/characteristic of people who have the supernatural power of God
working in their lives it’s this: unwillingness to compromise birthed out of an
revelation of their righteousness
1.
Daniel
3:14-18,25-With death staring them in the face, they knew that they were right
with God and consequently they refused to compromise
2.
James
1:6-8-Double-minded men should not expect to receive anything from the Lord
V.
The driving force behind great faith is a
revelation and consciousness of a person’s right-standing with God-Romans 4:2,3-13-25
A.
What
drives a man to expect that God’s word is going to come to pass when there’s no
human reason to expect that it’s going to come to pass?---You
know you are right with God and the right you have to see that word come to
pass
1.
Abraham
was able to stand in faith without wavering because the rights that he had
through the covenant that God made with him were reality to him
B.
We always
talk about how great Abraham’s faith was, but that faith stemmed from his
understanding of his right-standing with God
1.
If I’m
right with God I don’t have to talk about his willingness or wonder if He will
do it-Rom 4:21
2.
A person
who is unaware of their righteousness will always question God’s willingness
