Made Righteous
I. 2 Corinthians 5:17-21-You’ve
been made the righteousness of God
A.
The old spiritual condition has passed away
1. That unrighteous sinner condition is gone forever
B.
This new condition that we find ourselves in
is unprecedented
1. It’s unprecedented that a man who as sinned can be made new and stand
before God as though sin never existed
C.
We’ve been brought back into union and
friendship with Him
D.
He’s not counting up our trespasses and sin,
but rather cancelled them
E.
This is why you can be reconciled: because he
to be sin for us so that we could be MADE the righteousness of God in him
1. You can be reconciled unto him because you can be made right with Him
2. You don’t become righteous; when you got saved you were made righteous
II. 2 Corinthians 5:21-You were made
righteous with Jesus’ first class righteousness
A.
We don’t have some second class righteousness-Romans
3:25-26, 1 Corinthians 1:30
1. I am as accepted, innocent, faultless, and guiltless before God as Jesus
is-1John 4:17
2. Rom 8:17-I’m a joint-heir with Jesus and I have the same rights in the
presences of God that he does because I’ve been made right with his
righteousness
3. I have as a much right to be in the presence of God as Jesus does; I
have as much right to ask God something and get answer, to communicated with
him as Jesus does; I have as much right to healing, prosperity, deliverance as
he does
B.
Jesus became unacceptable, guilty, and at
fault in the eyes of God so that you and I could stand in his presence
accepted, guiltless, and faultless
1. He forfeited all his rights of covenant so that you could experience
yours
2. God forsook him, turned his back on him because sin made him
unacceptable and he became unacceptable so that you could be accepted
C.
Possess this righteousness and own it like
its yours; Jesus gave it to you as a gift-Rom 5:17
1. If you get new car you that somebody gives you, you don’t say my car is
as filthy rags, b/c that old car isn’t yours anymore; possess your
righteousness that way
2. Isaiah 64:5-6-My righteousness is no longer of filthy rags because his
righteousness is now my righteousness
III. Colossians 1:20-22-A major
part of Jesus’ high priestly ministry was to put you back in
right-standing with God, presenting you faultless before God
A.
Guilt and condemnation destroy fellowship and
intimacy with God; one of the major purposes of guilt is to drive you away from
God and intimacy with Him
1. The blood establishes harmony between God and man again b/c it puts man
in right-standing with God and that right-standing that we have with God by the
blood enables us to approach God and fellowship with God as though sin never
existed
2. Alienated-You were shut out from God’s intimacy by your wicked works, but those
works are gone now because of the power of the blood and therefore intimacy
with God has been reestablished
3. Reconcile-Bringing back a former state of harmony; The former state of harmony
was the Garden of Eden where man approached God with no consciousness of sin
and as though sin never existed because it never did
B.
Jesus has presented you before the Father as
a faultless being who cannot be accused of sin
1. Unreproveable-You can’t even be called into account regarding your sin
a.
They enemy has no right to accuse you of sin
once it’s been forgiven by blood
b.
You are in a position where you can never be
accused of forgiven sin
2. That was part of Jesus’ calling and assignment and you have to have
faith that he did his job; to say that you’re not unblameable
and unreproveable is to say that Jesus didn’t do his
job; let me remind you Heb 4 said you have a great
high priest
C.
Colossians 1:22-Versions
1. ERV-But now he has made you his friends again. He did this by the death
Christ suffered while he was in his body. He did it so that he could present
you to himself as people who are holy, blameless, and without anything that would make you guilty before him.
2. NCV-But now God has made you his
friends again. He did this through Christ's death in the body so that he might
bring you into God's presence as people who are holy, with no wrong, and with nothing of which God can judge you guilty
3. NIRV-So now you don't have any flaw. You are free from blame
4. NIV1984-To present you holy in his
sight, without blemish and free from
accusation
5. NLT-As a result, he has brought
you into his own presence, and you are holy & blameless as you stand before
him without a single fault
6. WE-Christ will bring you before God holy, clean, and good
IV. Submit to the righteousness
of God-Romans 10:1-4
A.
They don’t know and they don’t understand
what makes one right before God
1. They try to set up their own righteousness through works
B.
You have to on purpose submit to the
righteousness of God
1. When you’re yielding to guilt and condemnation you’re trying to set up
your own righteousness by what you do and don’t do rather than submitting to
the righteousness of God which says you’re righteous by faith
2. You’re walking around feeling guilty b/c of what you DID rather than
submitting to the righteousness of God b/c of what Jesus DID and receiving it
by faith
C.
Submission is putting yourself under the
authority of what the master says and it always brings tremendous
results-Matthew 8, 15:26
1. If you say I’m righteous then I am and how I feel about
makes no difference
V. Establish yourself in
righteousness-Isaiah 54:14
A.
To be
established in righteousness means that you’re firm and stable in the fact that
you are the righteousness of God, you are certain about it, steadfast in it and
not only that but it’s right up on the forefront of your mind, your conscious
of it
B.
The
righteousness of God is our starting point; (Ex: Established
1995)
1.
In this
New Covenant our starting point is in righteousness-Matthew 6:33
2.
Righteousness
is my starting point and from there I’ll know what to do
a.
The
foundation that you start from will play a major role in determining where you
end up; You can’t start off going in the wrong direction and expect to end up
and the right destination (Ex: House foundation)
b.
You got
start off by knowing that hey, I’m the righteousness of God, I’m in right
standing with God, and I have rights before God and I know what they are
3.
We can’t
go anywhere without first establishing ourselves in righteousness
a.
We can’t
talk about walking in love if you’re not established in righteousness; I have
to be established in the truth that I am right before I can do right
b.
We can’t
talk about healing or prosperity if you’re not established in righteousness;
you have to know you have a right to them
4.
Many
people get messed up about healing/prosperity b/c they didn’t start here
5. Without being established in this there’ll be no 1)
Relationship 2) Faith, Boldness, Confidence 3) Receiving 4) Ruling, Reigning
Authority
C.
We got to
develop faith and confidence in our righteousness with God
1.
We’ve got
to develop a certainty where our righteousness with God is concerned
a.
I believe
that what Jesus did on the cross was a real thing
2.
To develop
faith in our righteousness we have to hear the word on it-Romans 10:17
a.
Meditate
it, Confess it, and keep it on the forefront your mind; To the point that every
time you pray the first thought that you have is I’m the righteousness of God
b.
If we’re
going to develop faith in our righteousness then we have to go back to the
cross and saturate our thinking with what happened there; I’m right with the
father and I have rights as a believer because of what went on at Calvary.
3.
When I
believe in my heart I’m made right with God and then confess my way to
soundness, wholeness, nothing missing and nothing broken-Romans 10:10
