Jesus The Tormentor

I.      When we see Jesus we see his very presence put fear on hell

A.    Herod is trying to kill him in fear of Him; Satan tries to destroy you in fear of you-Mt2:3-15

1.      Herod is troubled-Agitate, Inward commotion, No calmness of mind, Restless, Strike one’s spirit with fear and dread, anxious or distressed

2.      He’s killing babies cause he’s yielding to the devil who is the spirit of fear and

a.    Whatever spirit you yield to, the personality of that spirit will come on you

b.    Fear came on him in the same way when you yield to the spirit of peace, peace comes on you

3.      Satan lived in torment of Genesis 3:15 from the moment that God spoke it to the moment that Jesus’ heal was on his head-Ephesians 1:21-22

a.    The very thought of this one coming who was going to bruise his head scared Satan to no end

b.    The prophets would prophesy about that one coming and the enemy hated it; you can see that fear and hate coming through the people who yielded to him

B.     Fear was made to fit Satan; Fear was cut to fit your enemies

1.      Fear was never cut for the believer

a.    Deuteronomy 2:4,24-25-4 And command thou the people, saying, Ye are to pass through the coast of your brethren the children of Esau, which dwell in Seir; and they shall be afraid of you, 24 Rise ye up, take your journey, and pass over the river Arnon: behold, I have given into thine hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land: begin to possess it, and contend with him in battle. 25 This day will I begin to put the dread of thee and the fear of thee upon the nations that are under the whole heaven, who shall hear report of thee, and shall tremble, and be in anguish because of thee.

b.    Deuteronomy 11:25-There shall no man be able to stand before you: for the LORD your God shall lay the fear of you and the dread of you upon all the land that ye shall tread upon, as he hath said unto you.

c.     Deuteronomy 28:7,10-The LORD shall cause your enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before your face: they shall come out against you one way, and flee before thee seven ways. 10 And all people of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of the LORD; and they shall be afraid of thee.

d.    Exodus 15:13-16-Thou in thy mercy have led forth the people which thou hast redeemed: thou hast guided them in thy strength unto thy holy habitation. 14 The people shall hear, and be afraid: sorrow shall take hold on the inhabitants of Palestina. 15 Then the dukes of Edom shall be amazed; the mighty men of Moab, trembling shall take hold upon them; all the inhabitants of Canaan shall melt away. 16 Fear and dread shall fall upon them; by the greatness of your arm they shall be as still as a stone; till thy people pass over, O LORD, till the people pass over, which thou hast purchased.

e.    Exodus 23:37-I will send my fear before thee, and will destroy all the people to whom thou shalt come, and I will make all thine enemies turn their backs unto thee.

2.      God is love and Satan is fear himself-1 John 4:18, 2 Timothy 1:7

a.    Satan’s nature is to tuck his tail and run; that’s who he is

3.      James 4:7-When you stand in faith, obey God, and persevere you put fear in Satan

a.    When Satan sees faith he feels fear

b.    Jesus put it (fear) on him like nobody ever has because he lived by faith and obeyed God all the days of his life every day

4.      The devil is not all that people have cracked him up to be; he is a fallen angel

a.    Isaiah 14:14-See him this way right now

II.     Jesus got anointed and the Holy Spirit fears the anointing-Matthew 3:13-17

A.    Jesus was baptized with the Holy Ghost and power-Acts 10:38

1.      God anointed Him with Holy Ghost and power

2.      The good doing proceeded the anointing b/c Jesus could do nothing of himself

3.      People were being overpowered by the devil, until the anointing showed up

a.    The anointing is the supernatural power of God for which the enemy has no answer

4.      God was with Him; this represents the anointing and that Jesus isn’t and doesn’t to accomplish anything in his own power or might

B.     Jesus’ very presence stirred fear in the heart of the enemy-Matthew 8:29, Mark 5:7

1.      28-These two demons are putting fear on people

a.    When Jesus showed up that was reversed by his very presence and now the fear that was on the people is upon these demonic spirits

b.    Torment-To vex with grievous pains in mind, harass, distressed

2.      Fear has torment and these demons are being torment by Jesus

a.    Devils, demons, and evil spirits tremble at Jesus’ very presence

b.    It wasn’t just because he was Jesus; it was because of what he carried

3.      Satan has a sense of inferiority in the presence of the anointing because he has no answer for it-1 John 4:1-4

a.    The devil fears sons of God because he knows inside of them there is power to stop the works of the kingdom of darkness in their tracks

4.      The nature of every demon is the same and therefore their response to Jesus is the same across the board

a.    Every situation in which Jesus showed up demons and evil spirits were tormented by his very presence knowing that they were inferior to Him because of what he carried; you can see their faces drop knowing that defeat is inevitable

5.      It’s foolish to fear an enemy who is inferior to you

III.   Jesus had no sense of inferiority no matter what he faced because he had a revelation and it was that God sent him and God was with Him-John 8:29,16,16:32

A.    Sent me-John 4:34,5:24,30,36,37,6:38-40,44,57,7:16,29,33,8:16,18,26,29,42,9:4,11:42,12:44-45,49,13:20,14:24,15:21,16:5,17:8,21,23,25,20:21 (33 times)

1.      If he didn’t send you, then you have no right to believe that he backs you 

2.      God never sends you to do something without equipping you with the ability to do it-Luke 9:2

3.      Because I know he sent me immediately I know that I am in no way inferior to accomplish the job and complete the tasks at hand  

a.    This wasn’t my idea to start with and therefore I know God is obligated to support me on this mission in any way necessary because he wants me here

B.     With me-John 8:16,28,16:32

1.      I don’t have to accomplish anything in my own power

2.      God was with him; He’s not doing it in his own power

C.    We have the same promise and need to catch that revelation the way Jesus did

1.      Sent us-2 Corinthians 5:20

2.      With us-Hebrews 13:5

IV.   Nothing disrupts the anointing in your life more than unbelief and consequently you’re going to have to win this battle in your mind-Matthew 4:1-14

A.    The enemy immediately attacks Jesus in fear of the anointing on his life

1.      He can’t stop the anointing, so he tries to muddle up the process that activates it

B.     Jesus is being attacked in his thought life

1.      “Satan said to him” doesn’t necessarily mean that he heard something audible

2.      When Satan speaks to you, it’s usually in the form of a thought

3.      If you take those thoughts you’ll get into fear (fear comes by hearing his words) and out of faith where the anointing becomes powerless in your life

C.    We see our master casting down thoughts with words-2 Corinthians 10:4-5

1.      Matthew 26, Luke 22-We see him under great mental pressure doing the same thing by saying Father not my will, but yours be done

2.      When he was under severe mental pressure, he prayed more earnestly (words coming out of his mouth)

D.    To keep that anointing active that Satan fears so greatly you must when the battle in your mind

1.      Every day is made of up of a bunch of thought battles; win every one
