FOUNDATION STATEMENT: Asking incorrectly will keep you from receiving

 

I.      Don’t ask a miss-James 4:1

A.    1-4-This is talking about people who aren’t receiving and aren’t obtaining

1.      A lot of times strife starts b/c somebody doesn’t have what somebody else has got

2.      Lust, murder, fighting, and warring are not ways to get what you desire

B.     Many people don’t have what the desire because they don’t go ask God for it

1.      Isaiah 30:2-They didn’t get it from God b/c they didn’t ask him or seek Him about it

C.    Many people don’t have what they desire b/c when they did ask, the asked amiss

1.      It’s possible to ask amiss, wrongly, improperly

2.      You need to know how to ask properly

II.     Asking fundamentals

A.    What does ASK (Aiteo) mean?

1.      Definition of ask

a.      Call for, crave, desire, require

b.      RR-To be adamant in requesting and demanding assistance to meet tangible needs, such as food shelter, money and so forth

c.      RR-To demand or to insist (to place a demand on)

d.      RR-Full expectation to receive what was firmly requested

e.      RR-Portrays a person who insists or demands that a specific need be met after approaching and speaking to is superior with respect and honor

2.      Whatever you’re asking of God what is the position of that thing today? (i.e. your healing, strength, provision where are they?)

a.      Anything you received by way of the cross was part of your inheritance (Ephesians 1:18, Romans 8:17)

1)       You are a joint-heir with Jesus; whatever he got you got-1 John 4:17

2)       You don’t ask for your inheritance b/c it’s yours!!! You receive it

b.      All things that pertain to life the way God has it and prosperity are being offered to you-2 Peter 1:4

1)       Life-Absolute fullness of life, blessed life, life the way God has it

2)       Godliness-That which pleases God-Psalm 35:27

a)      When God sees himself duplicated in people it pleases him; character&prosperity

3)       Why would you as for things that he’s already offering to you? You wouldn’t

c.      When “ask” for something we are placing a demand on what’s already being offered

1)       EX: When you go to the bank you don’t ask for your money you place a demand on it

2)       When we ask we are simply requiring and calling for what’s already ours and what’s already being offered

B.     Matthew 6:8-God didn’t find out you needed it when you asked

1.      He knew what you would need before the foundation of the world

2.      Revelation 13:8-The lamb was slain before the foundation of the world

3.      Hebrews 9:26-Jesus suffered since the foundation of the world

4.      Hebrews 4:3-The work was finished before the foundation of the world

5.      Ephesians 1:3-You were blessed before the foundation of the world

C.    John 15:16-He ordained this “ask and you shall receive” 

1.      Ordain-To appoint, to institute, to decree, to establish, to constitute

D.    Matthew 7:7,11-Ask and it shall be given to you

1.      The picture we have is “Father I ask you to give me ______ in Jesus name amen?”

2.      God knows how to cause good things to come forth to those who ask Him

III.   Seven principles of asking

A.    John 16:23-Whatsoever you ask the Father in my name he will give it to you

1.      Verily, Verily-This is big

a.      Whatsoever-That means anything

2.      (1) You ask the Father-John 16:26 (AMP)

a.      Jesus said ask him nothing (Jesus please… --- Don’t do that)

b.      John 14:13-14-He didn’t say ask me, he said what you ask

3.      (2) Ask in Jesus name (AMP-Presenting all that I am)

a.      You have to have the character of Jesus

4.      Give-Cause to come forth

a.      Give makes it seems like he doesn’t extend his hand until you ask

b.      The reality his hand was extended before you asked

B.     John 15:7-Ask what you will and it will be done unto you

1.      (3) You must abide in him

a.      1 John 4:15-You have to be born again

b.      1 John 4:16-You have to walk in love

c.      1 John 2:5-You have to keep His word

2.      (4) His words must abide in you-Proverbs 4:20

a.      Your mind is the gateway to your spirit

b.      Your eyes, ears, and mouth are the pathways to the mind

c.      You have to send the word down the pathways of your eyes, ears, mouth, so that they can travel through the gateway of your mind and enter your spirit

C.    1 John 5:14-15-Whatsoever we ask we know that we have the petitions desired of him

1.      (5) You have to ask according to his will

a.      Must people ask, being ignorant of his will & they don’t receive---If it be thy will

2.      If you don’t know his will you can’t ask according to it-Eph 5:17, Col 1:9

a.      You’re going to have to take the time to open this Book

b.      God’s interested in you knowing his will so that you can ask in line with it and have it in your life

D.    James 1:5-6-If you lack wisdom ask of God who gives to all men liberally

1.      (6) You have to ask in faith, nothing wavering

2.      If you waver you will not receive; if you doubt, change, or give in you won’t receive

E.     Mark 11:24-Whatever you desire (aiteo, ask) when you pray believe that you receive them and you will have them

1.      (7) When you ask you have to believe that you take and have what you desire

a.      You have to believe that you take them and have them when you pray and you will have them

b.      If you don’t believe you take them and have them, then you won’t have them

2.      Mk 11:24AMP-Believe, Trust & be confident that IT IS GRANTED to you & you will get it

3.      1 Jn 5:15-We know that we have as our present possessions what we asked of him

4.      People have been “asking” but not believing that they have received when they pray and that’s why they do not have what they desire

5.      Don’t “ask” for what’s being offered, take it!
