Can God Do Anything He Wants?
I.
By His own choice, God
confined himself to operate inside the boundaries of His Word
A. In His Word we see God
giving man dominion, authority, a will, and the choice and to force a man to do
something or to take dominion back from the man would be for God to violate His
Word becoming an outlaw-Genesis 1:26, Deuteronomy 30:19
B. He’s God,
He can do anything He wants? Is that the truth?
1.
Psalm
89:34-He can’t alter or change His word, He has to work inside the boundaries
of His word and therefore by His own choice He does not have the right to do
anything He wants even though he does have the might.
2.
Hebrews
6:19-God cannot lie; That means God cannot do anything that would violate His
Word or oppose his word in anyway
3.
When
you believe God can do anything He wants even to the point of violating His
Word it compromises your faith
C. Authority means lawful-It is not lawful for God (He does not have the
authority/right) to override your will because in doing so he violates His
Word; It is outside the legal right of God’s word for God to override a man’s
will
1.
God
created man with a will; if he didn’t want you to have a will, He wouldn’t have
created you with one (One definition of the word authority is the power of
choice, liberty to do as one pleases)
a. When God gave you a
choice he gave you authority
2.
If
God gave you the choice and told you to choose then it’s not His choice; for
Him to make it His choice is for Him to change and violate His Word
a. Deuteronomy 30:15,19-Today
I am giving you a choice between good and evil, between life and death. I am
now giving you the choice between life and death, between God's blessing and
God's curse, and I call heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Choose
life.
II.
Does He have the
power/might to do anything He wants? Yes. Does He have the right/the authority
to do anything He wants? No. Why?
Because he gave man dominion, authority, and the choice.
A. If God were to override a
man’s will (HE NEVER WILL) and take His choice in any area it would be the area
of a man’s salvation, the most important area in any man’s life
1.
If
God wants a man saved can he save a man who won’t confess Jesus as Lord and
believe with his heart that God raised him from the dead? Can he make a man choose Him? To do so
He’d have to alter the thing gone out of his lips – 2 Peter 3:9, Romans
10:8
2.
If
faith is required to get a man saved, does God have the legal right to force a
man to believe? No.
a. Faith is a choice and God
gave you the choice so it’s not His choice-John 20:25
B. If your answer to the
question, “Can God do anything He wants?” is yes, then His love will be the
next thing to come into question because the next question is going to be then
why would he let anybody go to hell, be sick, die early, be poor etc. if He is
a good of love and can do anything He wants at anytime?
1.
If
you say, “yes” to the question “Can God do anything He wants?” then it forces
you to answer the next question which will be, “Then why doesn’t He ________ ?”
2.
This
is the place where people come up with dumb religious answers like, “God is
mysterious, God is sovereign, He has some purpose is
this.”
3.
There’s
not an evil thing on this planet that happened that God didn’t do everything in
His power to stop it and it could have been stopped had people listened to Him
4.
There
are things that happen everyday that God doesn’t want yet He doesn’t stop them
because even though he Has the might to stop them, he does not have the right
to stop them
C. Mark 6:5-According to
this verse Jesus, (the visible representation of the invisible God) COULD NOT do any works there
because of their unbelief
1.
Jesus
could not exercise His might where he had no right/authority/permission
a. Did God want these people
healed? Was it His will that these people stay in bondage? Religion will say it
must be His will because if He wanted to deliver them He could have. You are disagreeing with the scripture. It said he COULD NOT do any mighty works.
2.
Matthew
13:58-Where there was no faith, there was no permission; He had the might, but
they didn’t give Him the right
a. Faith and obedience
permits God; Unbelief and disobedience denies God
b. God’s attitude was not,
“I’m not going to do any miracles because you won’t believe,” but rather His
attitude was, “I want to do miracles and mighty works, but I can’t because you
won’t believe.”
III.
God has no right to come
into your life and do something that you have not given Him the permission to
do
A. You have dominion and if
God wants to do something in your life, then He has to get authorization from
you to do it
1.
2
Chronicles 16:9-God is looking for permission
a. It’s not God saying, “I
won’t show myself strong in your behalf until your heart is perfect towards me
or until I have all of you,” it’s God saying, “I can’t show myself strong in
your behalf until your heart is perfect towards me or until I have all of you.”
1)
God’s
giving you the authority and He CAN’T come in until you get in faith and that
includes obeying Him and yielding to Him
2)
If
God’s attitude is “I WON”T,” then that’s turns your acts into works, but if
God’s attitude is “I CAN’T,” then that turns your acts into faith
b. Why is God looking for
the people with a perfect heart? Because it is those to whom He has the
permission to show Himself strong in their behalf
1)
The more God has of you,
the more permitted He is to be strong in your life-John 14:21
a) The more you follow God
and live by faith in every area of your life the more you’ll see God get
involved in your life
2)
God’s
looking for permission because there is only certain places “HE CAN” (He only
has permission in certain places so he’s looking for places HE CAN)
2.
Revelation
3:20-God is saying if you will open the door and grant me permission I will
come in and be your God
a. IF YOU WILL, THEN I CAN because I ALREADY
WILL --- IF YOU WON’T, then I CAN’T, even though I WILL TO
b. God is knocking because
he needs permission because you have the authority s
1)
Many
people say He’s God and He can just knock the door down if He wants, but I
submit to you if He did that He would be violating His word; So No he has no
right to knock the door down
3.
Grace
is a person and there is no authorization for grace where there is no faith
B. God will never override
your will to perform His will
1.
EX:
I’ve found that people who don’t believe in healing aren’t healed even though
it’s God’s will; People who don’t believe in prosperity aren’t prosperous even
though it’s God’s will; People who don’t believe in praying in the Spirit
aren’t praying in the spirit even though it’s God’s will
2.
Even
thought those things are His will for everybody, He will not make people
receive what He wants them to have
C. The authority to grant or
deny God access lies in the hands of the believer
1.
If
God hasn’t done something in your life ask yourself the question, “Can He? Have
I given Him the permission to do it?”
2.
Ephesians
3:20-God is able to do according to the power that works in you---What God can
or can’t do is affected by you and something working in you
a. God’s ability to “do” in
your life will be enhanced or limited by the power working in you
b. The working if His
ability is according to something; it’s not just according to what He wants
c. The power that’s working
in you is determining what He can do (or can’t do)
1)
“He can do whatever he
wants.” Can he? Or is it according to something
d. Power-Moral power and excellence of the soul
1)
Moral
power-The ability to do what is right (in character and in the fight of faith)
2)
Excellence
of the soul-A mind guarded and renewed the word, Emotions held in check not
moving you away from the Word, Choices everyday in line with the Word
3)
The
soul is the battlegrounds of faith and to operate in excellence of the soul is
to win the faith fight on that level
4)
3
John 2-God can’t prosper you above or beyond the level of the prosperity of
your soul---God is getting His instructions for your life from you, but looking
at your soul
5)
Proverbs
23:7-God can’t make you something outside that you aren’t inside and can’t give
you something outside that you don’t have inside
e. This excellent soul,
where your faith is high, your heart is soft, your life is yielded is where God
has permission and he’s able to do according to this
3.
Numbers
13,14:26-35-God wanted that generation in the promise land; that was His will
and although he possessed the might to get them in, He had no right to do
something for them that they wouldn’t give Him permission to do
a. Their soul was not excellent, but Joshua and Caleb’s were
b. The only ones with the
authority to keep them out of the promise land was them
