Authority That Works
Foundation Statement: How do we exercise our
authority effectively every time? The key to exercising your authority
effectively is not intense effort, but rather precise obedience
I.
2 Corinthians 5:17-21-Ambassador ministry-We have authority because
we’ve been sent by Jesus
A. We
are ambassadors FOR Christ-We
are not from the Earth, We’ve been sent by our King, We are His official
representatives, We represent his power and authority and we are here to carry
out his will
1.
There is a revelation of
our authority and how to operate in it effectively that lies inside the
revelation that we are Jesus’ ambassadors
B. The
Kingdom Process for authority goes like this: The Father shows me by His Spirit
what to do and say and I do and say EXACTLY what He shows me and the Father in
me does the works
1.
Anything said or done
that originates with you Heaven is not required to back and support
C. To be
sent of God is to have his backing and that’s what gives you authority
1.
Authority
is all about the backing; Take away the backing and you become a zero
2.
There’s something about
knowing that you have been sent that sparks a revelation of your authority
a. EX:
Kenneth Copeland getting that lady out of that insane asylum
b. EX:
Nervousness tried to come on me the first time I agreed to preach
3.
When you get the
revelation that you’ve been sent it unlocks your authority-Jdg6:12,1Sam17:45,Ex3:12
4.
Romans 8:31-It’s give new
meaning to If God be for us, who can be against us?
D. 10
Ambassador Revelations that will help you to unlock your authority as a
believer (See Last outline)
1.
Words of Jesus-You know
where I am from: and I am not come on my own authority and of my own accord and
as self-appointed. I come from
God’s very presence and it was He who personally sent me. For I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. He
that sent me is with me. I came down from heaven, not to do my own will, but
the will of him that sent me. I
have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I
speak to the world only those things that I have heard of him. I do nothing of
myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things. The Father has
not left me alone; for I do always those things that
please him. I must work the works
of him that sent me. My fulfillment
is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work. I have never
spoken of myself or on my own authority or of my own accord or as
self-appointed. The Father who has
sent me has given me orders concerning what to say. And I know that his commandment is
eternal life. So whatever I speak,
I am saying exactly what my Father has told me to say and in accordance with
His instructions. My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. The word that you hear is not mine, but
the Father’s that sent me. The son
can do nothing of himself but he is able to do only what he sees the Father
doing. I am able to do nothing of
myself, but only as I am taught by God and as I get orders. Even as I here I judge, I decide the way
I’m told to decide. As the voice
comes to me so I give a decision.
And my decisions are right for I am not alone in making them. He that sees me sees him that sent me.
The living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father.
2.
#1-I’m not here by my own plan, I have been sent #2-The one who sent me is with me #3-I am not here to do my will, but the will of
the one who sent me #4-The one who sent me will only back me and
support me in what he has sent me to do #5: I MUST works the works of him that sent me #6: Fulfillment in life comes from doing only
what the Father shows you to do and saying only what the Father tells you to
say because that’s when you are effective and that’s when you get results #7: Whatever I do and say I have to get it from
the one who sent me first #8: I have to be able communicate with the one
who sent me. I have to be
proficient at seeking him, hearing him, and seeing what he’s showing me #9: When you see me you see the one who sent me #10: I live by the One who sent me
II.
John 5:30-Jesus tells us why when he exercised his authority it
worked every time
A. This
whole chapter is Jesus revealing to them why and how he did this work with this
man at the pool of Bethesda, why he has authority, and why that authority works
1.
This whole fuss in chapter 5 by the religious
people is over Jesus exercising authority given to him by the Father and having
that authority work
2.
Jesus told this guy who was oppressed for 38
years to, “Rise, take up your bed, and walk. ”They are mad because Jesus exercised
his authority and it worked. Jesus is responding to their anger.
B. 17-Jesus
said I must be at divine work
1.
He’s begins to explain why this happened
because they are mad that it happened
2.
He starts off by saying this was a co-laboring
of me and my Father and this was my Father’s work
C. 19-The
son can do nothing of himself
1.
Their problem wasn’t with Jesus it was with the
Father who showed Jesus to do that (at the pool), told Jesus what to say and
then backed Jesus when he did it
a. He’s
saying, “I can’t do anything apart from God.”
b. He’s
saying, “I did this on the Sabbath because God showed me to.”
2.
Jesus is telling them this wasn’t my idea, this
was something God-ordained and showed me to do
a. 20-It
you’re upset about this, you’re going to be even more upset because greater
stuff is coming
D. 21-22-Jesus
begins to reveal that he has authority
1.
21-Jesus restores to life whomsoever the Father
wills
a. The same
way the Father raises up the dead and restores to life the Son does to as the
Father wills; The son can quicken the same way the Father can as the Father
wills
b. He has
the authority and power to restore to life, but only as the Father wills
2.
22-The Father committed all judgment to the Son
a. John
5:8-“Rise, take up your bed and walk.” --- That’s Jesus judging, ruling,
decreeing, governing
b. God has
committed the ruling and reigning on the Earth into Jesus’ hands
c. God’s
doing the ruling and decreeing and governing through Jesus
3.
24-Jesus is saying I have authority to decree,
to rule, to govern given to me by my Father
a. When the
judge gives the sentence you not only have to believe his words you have to
believe in the authority of the one who sent the judge and gave him authority
1)
EX: In court you believe the Judge’s words and
you believe on the government that sent him
b. So if
Jesus says, “Rise, take up your bed and walk” and the guy the believes the
authority of those words because he believes on the one who sent me he’s going
to pass from death to life because my words are spirit and they are life-John
6:63
c. This
verse happened to this guy who had been sick for 38 years; When you hear Jesus’
words and believe what he says zoe works in your life
E. ***26-27-He’s
exercising authority given to him by the Father concerning judgment in the
final day, but the principles of exercising authority are the same whether it
is to exercise judgment in the final day or to exercise authority over a
situation in the Earth***
1.
In verse 26 the life is the might and in verse
27 the authority is the right
2.
The same things that made Jesus’ authority work
are the same things that will make my authority work; we got that authority
from the same God and it’s the same authority
F. 30-The
effectiveness of Jesus’ authority
1.
Jesus said I have no ability to do anything of
myself
a. 27-Even
though the Father had given him authority to do this, Jesus knew he couldn’t do
it of himself; Just because God has given us authority doesn’t mean that we can
do it of ourselves
b. 21,22,26-In
these verses Jesus is revealing to them the level of authority and power given
to him by the Father that the Father has committed all judgment (ruling,
decreeing) into his hands and that He has zoe in
himself and he quickens whomsoever he wills and even with all that given to him
Jesus tells us in verse 30 that if he doesn’t do what he’s told his authority
won’t work
c. 30-He’s
teaching us in verse 30 how to exercise the authority given to him in verse 27
effectively
2.
Jesus said I rule and decree and govern and
pronounce judgment only as I hear
a. Job
22:28, Ecclesiastes 8:4-When you’re exercising authority you’re ruling and
decreeing by saying and you do that based on what you hear
b. Jesus
said he is only able to do as He is taught by God and as He gets orders
1)
Whatever he hears he does and decrees
2)
He decides as he is told to decide
3.
Jesus said My ruling and decreeing is faultless
because I do what the Father has told me to do
a. If you say
exactly what God tells you to say you will effectively exercise your authority
every time
b. Mark11:23-You can
believe that what you say will come to pass b/c you got the words to say from
the Father
4.
When you’re sent it’s imperative that you seek
the will of the one who sent you; If you seek the will of God who sent you and
do what God wants you to do then he that sent you will back what you do and
you’re ruling and reigning will be faultless
a. Our big problem is that we don’t seek the will
of the one who sent us we just do what we want
G. 31-If
Jesus were to do anything of himself he says it would be invalid and not worth
anything
1.
Anything you do of yourself is nothing-1 Corinthians 13:1-3
2.
36-The Father GAVE him the works to do and he
did exactly what He was told to do
a. The
works bear witness that the Father has sent you because they are proof the
Father backs you
3.
43-He came in the Father’s name so to see the
power of that name work He has to do exactly what the Father tells him to do
and say exactly what the Father tells him to say
III.
The people who God uses,
the people who God works through in a mighty way, the people who walk in great
authority are the ones that look to him, hear from him and do exactly what He
tells them to do
A. You do have authority;
you have Heaven’s authority and you’ll see that authority work if you’ll do
what Heaven says
1.
The
Kingdom Process Of Authority-The Father shows me what to do and say by His
Spirit, I do it and say it, the Father in me does the works
2.
It’s
not Jesus picking what he would do and say and the Father doing the
works or Jesus saying a bunch of stuff and just hoping the Father blesses some
of it
3.
Do
you know whom God is going to work through in a boundless way? The people that
will do exactly what they are told.
We like to assume we are these people and most are not.
B. Moses was used of God and
walked in authority because he did what he was told
1.
Exodus
14:12-Moses walked in great authority
a. 15-Crying unto God isn’t
going to do anything to help in this situation
1)
Moses
had been authorized to lead the people out of Egypt and into the promise land
so there’s no need for him to cry to God to something
2)
Once
you’ve been authorized crying to God is unacceptable; To many that’s
Christianity in a nutshell, crying to God to get Him to do something that He
authorized them to do
b. 16-God told Moses to
divide the sea; This authorized Moses to do it
c. 21-Moses walked in
authority because he did exactly what he was told
1)
Did you notice God didn’t
do any work until somebody did exactly what he said
d. 26-For the water to cover
the Egyptians God told Moses to stretch his hand over the sea and then Moses
did exactly what he was told and the Father did the work
2.
Numbers
12:3-Moses walked in that authority because he was meek; he looked to God and
did what he was told (Meek-Yielding, Submissive, Humble)
3.
Numbers
20:1-Moses lost his authority because he didn’t do exactly what he was told
a. 6-This is why Moses
walked in great authority---He looked to God
b. 8-The instructions were
to take the rod, gather the people and speak to the rock
1)
10-The
orders didn’t say anything about speaking to the people
2)
11-The
orders didn’t say anything about hitting the rock
c. 12-Moses lost his
authority to take them into the promise land---Doing exactly what you are told
is big in the eyes of God
1)
MSG-Because you didn’t
trust me, didn’t treat me with Holy reverence in front of the people of Israel,
you to aren’t going to lead this company into the land that I am giving them.
2)
The
issue wasn’t his anger, the issue is he didn’t do what he was told
d.
When you don’t do what
you are told and say what you are told it shows the Father that you can’t be
trusted with great assignments, greater authority,
great anointing
